KDE on Windows News RSS April 7th, 2009 : KDE 4.2.2 for Windows available The KDE on Windows team today announced the immediate availability of "Cano", (a.k.a KDE 4.2.2), another bugfix and maintenance update of the KDE release. New in this release is an unstable snapshot of K3B, the KDE cd burning application. As a service release, the changelog contains a list of bugfixes and improvements. Note that the changelog is usually incomplete, for a complete list of changes that went into KDE 4.2.2, you can browse the Subversion log. KDE 4.2.2 also ships a more complete set of translations. The binary packages could be installed with the installer by using the version "stable 4.2.2" (or "stable latest"). In case you are upgrading your KDE installation, deselect the skip basic settings checkbox on the first installer page and press next until you are guided to the release settings page where you can choose the required version. O Gobuntu é um novo sabor do Ubuntu (como o Kubuntu ou o Xubuntu) que é basicamente o mesmo ambiente desktop do Ubuntu mas com restrições muito mais rígidas quanto ao licenciamento dos componentes de tudo que é incluído nele, removendo até mesmo itens que seriam permitidos pelas Debian Free Software Guidelines, além de aplicativos, drivers, firmware, PDFs, vídeos, sons, etc. que não possam ser considerados plenamente livres. É uma nova referência para aqueles que querem dar um passo além na sua adoção da liberdade de software.

O pacote permite a instalação e configuração do Ubuntu de dentro do Windows. O download inicial é pequeno, com o restante dos arquivos sendo baixados usando BitTorrent. Na instalação, o usuário pode escolher entre três versões do Ubuntu: a original, o Kubuntu (que usa KDE como interface padrão) e o Xubuntu (feito para máquinas mais antigas). O download completo fica em cerca de 610 MB para o Ubuntu original. Mas, quem tiver de interromper o processo pode continuar os downloads posteriormente.
