My name is Alberto Milone, I graduated [1st level degree (equivalent to a BA) - December 2005, 2nd level degree (equivalent to a MA) - March 2008] in Foreign Languages (the name of the course was "Lingue Moderne per la Comunicazione Internazionale") at the Università del Salento. I was born in Turin in 1983 but I have spent most of my life in Lecce. My current interests range from the study of the English language to (open source) software development on GNU/Linux distributions, for which I have an insane passion. I work on a GNU/Linux distribution (based on Debian and developed by Canonical) called Ubuntu Linux. According to Canonical's webpage: "Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, meaning "humanity to others". Ubuntu also means "I am what I am because of who we all are". Como usar o APT Resumo Esse documento pretende levar ao usuário um bom conhecimento das funções do utilitário de empacotamento do Debian, APT. É objetivo real deste, facilitar a vida dos novos usuários de Debian ou ajudar aqueles que desejam se aprofundar no conhecimento da administração desse sistema. ADSL NO DEBIAN Configurar uma conexão adsl (Velox, Speedy etc) no Linux é muito fácil e varia de uma distro para outra. Há distribuições que possuem ferramentas gráficas para tal, como a Kurumin e a Mandriva, mas também é possível configurá-las pelo terminal e é por esse método que vamos fazer a configuração. O procedimento serve tanto para o Ubuntu quanto para as distribuições baseadas no Debian, pelo menos nas que eu testei... Abra o terminal e digite sem as aspas " sudo pppoeconf " (se você estiver usando o Debian provavelmente será necessário instalar o pacote, digite no terminal " sudo apt-get install pppoeconf " com o cd de instalação no drive), digite a sua senha de usuário e vai aparecer uma janela dizendo que detectou tantas interfaces de rede (eth0, eth1, etc para quantas placas de rede você tenha na máquina) e se você deseja configurar a conexão na interface de rede selecionada e, selecionada a interface de rede onde o modem adsl está conectado, vai aparecer uma janela dizendo que foi detectado o concentrador de acesso (no caso, o modem adsl) e assim ir para a tela de login; digite o seu nome de usuário e senha do seu provedor de acesso e vá dando ENTER e concordando com as perguntas que forem feitas, escolhendo ao final da configuração que você quer que a conexão seja iniciada no boot da máquina. Isso vai permitir que a sua conexão esteja sempre ativa. Reinicie a máquina e pronto, já estará conectado e navegando.

How to install Scribus on Debian or Ubuntu GNU/Linux Distributions Wed, 05/21/2008 - 00:25 — malex Introduction This document is about using Scribus Team repositories to obtain up-to-date Scribus packages for Debian GNU/Linux (unstable/testing/stable also known as sid/squeeze/lenny) and on Ubuntu (Intrepid/Hardy/Gutsy). We have two identical repositories (debian.tagancha.org and debian.scribus.net) that provide bandwidth redundancy and failover capabilithary, so you can use either one or both of them. Instructions are the same whether you run a 32-bit or a 64-bit distribution.

STEP 1: INSTALL THE DEBIAN UNIVERSAL OPERATING SYSTEM First of all shrink your Windows partition to make room for the new system. There is a tutorial at Howtoforge but take in consideration the possibility of dedicating a whole new hard disk to your GNU/Linux installation especially if you are new to this kind of systems. Now you need to download from here the Net Installation CD image (as of the moment I'm writing is called debian-40r1-i386-netinst.iso) and now you can burn the cd from this .iso image. Once you have your cd ready you need to boot your pc from this cd and once you have booted from CD you can see the first sceen with the boot: prompt. If you want to install installation in graphical mode you need to write “installgui” you can see this in the following screen and after that, jusy press your “Enter” key.

DebianEdu * is a Debian project to make the best distribution for educational purposes. Skolelinux * is the name of a CustomDebianDistribution which is produced by the DebianEdu project. "Skole" ([skuːl]) is the Norwegian form of "school". Both "skole" and "school" comes from the Latin word "schola".

O "problema" do Linux é que os usuários querem que ele seja como o Windows, tudo "facinho" de fazer e de mão beijada (ou quase), aliás isso era uma coisa que eu queria tb, mesmo já sendo relativamente experiente no Linux. O que não pode acontecer é essa facilidade de fazer as coisas não deixe o sistema tb tão vulnerável qto o é no Windows. Quer um exemplo? Só de sacanagem em um hd que eu ia formatar e estava com o Ubuntu e o XP eu digitei no terminal " sudo rm -rf " e simplesmente detonou os arquivos da partição do Windows (que estava montada) e uma pá de coisa da partição do Linux e, "butando" o micro, nem grub tinha mais. Imagine um piru aí qualquer fazer un script com esse comando de modo mais "inteligente" e assim fazer com que o usuário tenha o seu sistema detonado pq o Linux ficou "mais fácil", e esse é só um exemplo.

Sábado, 4 de Agosto de 2007 Instalação de Fontes no Ubuntu Recentemente resolvi dar um "Upgrade" no meu Gimp e no Inkscape com novas fontes. Mas porque colocar as fontes novas apenas para eles? Resolvi então colocar as novas fontes no sistema. Bem, mas o primeiro passo é conseguir as fontes =). No site NetFontes há uma porção delas e o melhor é que são free. No Debian (Meu Notebook) foi bem simples, bastou criar uma nova pasta em /usr/share/fonts, por exemplo /usr/share/fontes/extras, colocar as novas fontes lá e reinicias o programa que eu quero que use as fontes. Já no Ubuntu não foi bem assim :-( Nele além de colocar as novas fontes é necessário rodar o comando: $ sudo defoma-font register-all /usr/share/fonts/extras/* -v o DEFOMA é o Debian Font Manager, um utilitário de configuração automática de fontes. InFog
