Space Sense for Kids

Every question you answer correctly will boost your rocket a little further toward its destination--leaving the Earth's atmosphere. Click the button that you think holds the correct answer, or click a 'Life Line' button for helpful clues. 'Open a Link' will take you to a web page that has information about the question, and 'What have others answered?' will show you the percentage of people that have previously chosen each answer.

Eight Planets and a Dwarf Soduko

Fill in all the empty cells by dragging and dropping the planets Every row, column, and 3x3 box with orange borders should contain all nine planets. No planet should appear more than once in a row, column, or box.

Planet Impact: Home

In this interactive online activity, students investigate how the gravitational force of a large solar system body, such as Jupiter, can affect the path of a smaller body, such as a comet. They will launch a comet to learn how gravity can change its path. They also learn how changing the speed, the angle of approach, or the masses of large and small bodies affects the force of gravity on a comet. Students are challenged to use this knowledge to crash their own comet into Jupiter or make their comet fly past the planet without colliding with it

Build a Solar System

(via)
Make a scale model of the Solar System and learn the REAL definition of "space." Enter how big you want to the sun to be in your model (in inches). Press calculate to see how to scale. Here is an example:If you build your solar system on a roll of toilet paper, you can make the Sun about .4 inches (10 mm) across and still fit the entire solar system on the roll. A standard roll of toilet paper has about 450 sheets that are about 4.375 inches long, hence the roll is about 164 feet long. You should check your toilet paper for length. Some are longer.

Stanford SOLAR Center -- Comparison Activities

This activity helps students understand the enormity of the the sun's size, temperature, and distance by using comparisons. Appropriate for middle school as a whole class tool and to high school students independently.

NASA Sun Earth Media Viewer: Live Solar Images

Another amazing site from NASA. Aside from live images and illustrations, interviews from NASA scientists answer questions related to the Sun in a movie format.
