TheTechGuide Forum -> Networking 2 windows xp

I restored my host computer and now I cannot get to folders in "My Network Places" although I can see them from both computers. The error message is Downstairs is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found." This error message is on both computers. The host computer is a Windows XP Home operating system and the second computer is a Windows XP Professional operating system. The 2nd computer is named downstairs and the 1st (host) computer is named upstairs. I get the same error message on both computers; that is, the downstairs computer says "Upstairs is not accessible...... I am the administrator and I rebooted both computers and log in as the administrator. Any suggestions?

Sysinternals Freeware - Autoruns

by 9 others (via)
This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor (A starting list of auto-run locations was obtained from David Solomon's "Windows Internals" seminar), shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP. Autoruns' Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc. You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched automatically!

windows xp services

by 5 others (via)
There are basically two ways that are safe to turn these off. Way number one is in your msconfig (Start then Run then msconfig then click ok). When you open the msconfig you will see a tab named "Services" click on that and decide on what you want to disable. The other way is your services policy editor (Start then Run then services.msc /s then click ok). Either way you will be able to disable them. Below is the list of services, what each is and recommendation to turn them off or on. Before you continue with this create a restore point. If something goes wrong this will be the easiest way to return the unit back to the way it was. There are now 122 Services listed here.
