I have been a motion designer at ustwo since 2007 and this "Blog" is a chance for me to share my views on all things motion in and around the world of interaction and mobile interface design.

Cyclops is a tool that translates After Effects curves to code, allowing developers to get the motion right from the beginning. 

This is a screencast of a Processing sketch I developed called TypeStar. It’s basically a karaoke machine that renders lyrics in realtime according to a number of preset visualization schemes. It was originally created for a project in my Type in Motion class which required students to create a kinetic type animation for the Busy Bee scene from the movie Best in Show. I decided that rather than create yet another kinetic type piece, I would write a kinetic type engine.

The use of motiongraphics/animation is still pretty new at The New York Times. We’re still figuring things out, but I thought it might be useful for some people to see what our work flow is like.

Kutiman, un multi-instrumentiste de Tel Aviv auteur d'un album funky passé relativement inaperçu en 2008, aura été le premier. Le premier en tout cas à produire l'équivalent d'un album en coupant, collant, démontant et remontant des dizaines et des dizaines de vidéos d'amateurs de Youtube.

We were sitting in this sushi bar pondering how best to set up a camera to film things all by itself whilst we were in Tokyo. Take our hands out of the equation... let the camera have its own journey. I'd taken a cannibalised record turntable with me from the UK with the idea of filming slow panoramas but it was painfully bumpy and stopped every minute. Then we had our eureka moment and filmed this. A few years later I was working on a piece of music and married the two together. The music is all about that feeling when you're half asleep in the sun.. the ambiance of foreign voices becomes a lullaby to dream away.

In Paris we met with one half of the design duo that makes up Studio Deubal. Deubal is a French creative agency consisting of Stéphanie Lelong and Olivier Marquézy. We fell in love with their original character-based title sequence designs. When we visit Olivier in his studio, he's on his last legs. He's been pulling an all-nighter.
