The plugin transforms an unoredered list of images into a box displaying only one preview image at a time. The box has controls to skim through the preview images and to enlarge a given image. The box expands to accomodate the enlarged version, while the controls are hidden in full image size mode. A simple click on the image returns the box to its compact state. The compact box has fixed, automatically calculated dimensions. The widht and height are calculated so that all thumbnail images are cropped to the smallest width and height in the set and centered resulting image area (stage).

Today, I came across a great jQuery plugin that will preload your images. This file now has a permanent spot in my "resources" folder. The plugin essentially scans your CSS files and preloads all of the images within it.

L'optimisation des images est une manière simple et peu coûteuse d'améliorer les performances d'affichage d'un site au premier chargement (avec le cache navigateur vide) sans trop de problèmes. Smush it! a remis ce sujet à la mode et permet de voir facilement les images à optimiser pour une page donnée. Le problème est qu'avec ce service, on peut récupérer une archive zip avec les images optimisées mais en perdant l'arborescence des images ce qui peut être un peu fastidieux, il est aussi fastidieux d'utiliser l'extension Firefox sur toutes les pages d'une application web pour passer en revue toutes les images et si en plus les images ne sont pas publiquement accessibles son utilisation ne sera tout simplement pas possible. Pour pallier à cela, j'ai écrit le script shell suivant pour l'optimisation des fichiers GIF et PNG qui : 1. optimise tous les fichiers PNG avec pngcrush 2. identifie les PNG 24 bits avec identify (qu'il est peut être possible de transformer en PNG 8 bits mais cela nécessite une vérification visuelle) 3. convertit les fichiers GIF en PNG 8 bits avec convert si le fichier résultant est plus petit.

With the help of tool called tentakel, you run distributed command execution. It is a program for executing the same command on many hosts in parallel using ssh (it supports other methods too). Main advantage is you can create several sets of servers according requirements. For example webserver group, mail server group, home servers group etc. The command is executed in parallel on all servers in this group (time saving). By default, every result is printed to stdout (screen). The output format can be defined for each group.

Je vous avais rapidement parlé de pngcrush pour optimiser les images PNG, sans aucune perte de qualité. Stoyan Stefanov nous propose jpegtrans dans sa dernière présentation sur l’optimisation des images. Le principe est le même : un petit outil en ligne de commande qui optimise l’image sans aucune perte de qualité. Celui ci ne touche donc pas à la compression de l’image elle-même, mais retire toutes les méta-données embarquées dans le fichier.

Je suis tombé il y a quelques temps sur un plug-in sympa pour jQuery qui permet de pré-charger les images des fichiers CSS (via). C'est utile dans un certain nombre de cas pour le webdev moderne. Ca m'avait plu et je voulais l'utiliser mais je me suis rendu compte qu'il ne prenait pas en compte les fichiers importés via la règle @import. J'ai donc ré-écrit le script en améliorant 2 ou 3 petites choses : * Je fais gaffe de parser seulement les CSS de type @media screen * Je fais du récursif pour choper les éventuels styles @importés (façon W3C et IE) * Je stock les règles dans un tableau pour éviter d'avoir une seule regex à appliquer sur une seule grosse chaîne, c'est plus performant

One advantage of server virtualization is the ability to rapidly provision new production environments. Automatic virtual machine deployment can significantly speed up the time to instantiate new services or reallocate resources depending on the user needs. This article focuses on the integration of SystemImager and Xen to create a totally open source framework able to manage on-demand deployment of virtual machines, such as physical machines, using a single centralized point of management. This approach allows to strongly reduce IT costs and simplify administrative tasks for enterprise data centers, even with a complex and/or reduced set of hardware resources, exploiting the dynamic-provisioning functionalities of SystemImager and virtualization advantages of Xen.

Virtualization offers advantages that include server consolidation, isolation, rapid provisioning, and improved change management processes. Since virtualization breaks the hardware dependency and isolates virtual machines from details about the physical servers on which they are hosted, virtual images can be moved from one hosting platform to another. They can also be cloned to create more virtual machines, as desired. One of the challenges with cloning virtual images is handling operating system, network, and application specific customization. This article provides a sample framework for automating virtual image activation on new host platforms. This article, along with a previous article on Using virtual image templates to deploy WebSphere Application Server, demonstrates an automated approach for quickly and easily provisioning new WebSphere Application Server environments. The sample deployment and activation code included with this article is independent of WebSphere Application Server and can be used in conjunction with other software inside a virtual image. De base ce n’est pas très recherché, l’image se charge dans une nouvelle page vous obligeant à revenir en arrière pour continuer la visite du site internet. Depuis quelques temps il existe divers moyens de rendre l’affichage des images liées plus sympathique, ainsi on peut utiliser plusieurs techniques de lightbox mais aussi et ça c’est déja plus récent, utiliser un effet de zoom. Donc en gros on affiche une miniature de l’image plus ou moins petite, qui lors du click va zoomer pour afficher l’image dans sa taille réelle. Une des solutions existantes pour arriver à ce résultat est d’utiliser FancyZoom 1.1 proposé par Cabel Maxfield Sasser sur son blog.
