Throughout the 1980s you just couldn’t escape hearing about such popular names as Roddy Piper, Jesse Ventura, Andre the Giant and of course, Hulk Hogan whether you were a fan of wrestling or not. Hogan’s appearance in the Sylvester Stallone film Rocky III gave him the one two punch of name and face recognition that led to him being signed by what was then called World Wrestling Federation. After a lawsuit by the World Wildlife Fund who shared the same initials, the WWF would soon come to be known as World Wrestling Entertainment – the WWE. The fans were undeterred by the name change just as they were during the years full of allegations of steroid and drug use in the company and today the WWE boasts one of the largest fan bases in the world. The name and wrestlers themselves have changed over the years, but the fact that World Wrestling Entertainment is pure adrenaline laded entertainment (just as the name implies) has kept it playing to packed arenas all over the country.
