What does a sudden evacuation look like? After everyone is gone, what happens to the places they've abandoned?

Citing a recent court ruling in Arkansas that "has approved the use of aerial imagery to collect data on property sizes," and making reference to the already-controversial state deployment of aerial surveillance tools, sUAS suggests that drones could someday be used to manage a near-realtime catalog of local property expansions, transfers, and other tax-relevant land alterations.

 This is a small city somewhere in East Germany. Its citizens abandoned it long ago and these are just tourists who sometimes come visit this place…

There is nowhere else in the world quite like Chungking Mansions, a dilapidated seventeen-story commercial and residential structure in the heart of Hong Kong’s tourist district. A remarkably motley group of people call the building home; Pakistani phone stall operators, Chinese guesthouse workers, Nepalese heroin addicts, Indonesian sex workers, and traders and asylum seekers from all over Asia and Africa live and work there—even backpacking tourists rent rooms. In short, it is possibly the most globalized spot on the planet.

We have to stop throwing good money after bad. It is time to instead build what the market wants: mixed-income, walkable cities and suburbs that will support the knowledge economy, promote environmental sustainability and create jobs.

Petropavlovsk, Petropavlovsk. Cette ville était rapidement devenue “PK” dans nos échanges de mails. PK : j’aime l’abstraction de cette dénomination qui claque dans le silence géographique de la carte… comme une cible militaire. Je ne me sens pas capable de proposer de PK une conception unifiée, cohérente ni spécifique. Ce qui distingue PK des autres villes, je n’en sais rien. Peut-être toutes les autres villes ont-elles d’ailleurs quelque chose de PK.

The lakeside backpacker alley has seen better days. Every week, another restaurant, home or guesthouse is demolished. What remains is frustration in the form of graffiti. This alley has not felt creepier and run-down in years. Better look for the next backpacker ghetto (my bet’s around Orussei)

The finished areas of Camko city are largely open to public scrutiny now. The Camko roads can be driven up to the various areas of the project. There are advertisements for the residences and towers but it looks like the new 6 finished towers are still empty. 5 more towers are getting closer to completion. None of the commercial area has been developed yet.

Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest) is a project for metropolitan reforestation that contributes to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory. Bosco Verticale is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city.

In Tokyo the average household is less than 2 people, and these smaller households seek new connections with neighbors, colleagues, and friends. I think the most radical suggestion is that an awareness of other people living around you might be considered a positive feature rather than something to be concealed or suppressed.

Necessity being one of invention's many mothers, I have a certain faith in our ability to repurpose almost anything, provided it becomes sufficiently necessary.

What if we could easily share ideas for what we want in our neighborhoods?

On a regional level, Fukuoka is gradually becoming a microcosm of Japan's likely future - a teeming urban island of relative youth and prosperity, surrounded by a depopulated countryside largely abandoned to the elderly.
