by karlcow

by karlcow

Introducing the Yahoo! Open Strategy (Yahoo! Developer Network blog)

by karlcow

The Social Platform isn’t yet another social networking vertical from Yahoo!. It's a common social infrastructure that will span all of Yahoo! and the web beyond. We’ll start by collapsing the Y! 360 and Mash connection lists into one social repository (and add a new user interface to it), then we'll take a proactive approach to tapping into the TEN BILLION aggregate relationships in Mail, Messenger, Address Book, and other social areas of Yahoo! to recommend connections to our users.

Google has lots to do with intelligence

by karlcow

So far, 37,000 users have established accounts on the network, which contain 35,000 articles encompassing 200,000 pages, according to Dennehy.

Rapport créations/contributeurs, pas très élevé…

Normally, Google ranks results on its consumer site by using the number of links to a Web page as a barometer of its importance. Doing so on Intellipedia isn't as effective because the service lies behind a firewall and is used by a limited number of people. Instead, material gets more prominent placement if it is tagged, or appended by the network's users, with descriptive keywords.

ahah.

And so we thought: Why stop there?

Data-mining detects the disaffected | Military Tech - Mark Rutherford looks at how the military merges with the digital age - CNET Blogs

by karlcow

The technology, based on something called Probabilistic Latent Semantic Indexing (PDF), scours an organization's e-mail traffic and constructs a graph of social network interactions illustrating employee activity. If a worker suddenly stops socializing online, abruptly shifts alliances within the organization, or starts developing an unhealthy interest in "sensitive topics," the system detects it and alerts investigators.

Microsoft Announces New Reporting Standard for Digital Campaign Performance: Engagement Mapping: New approach allows advertisers to map and assign value to various touch points, gaining a more complete picture of a campaign.

by karlcow & 1 other

REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 25, 2008 — Microsoft Corp. today announced Engagement Mapping, a new approach to managing and measuring the effectiveness of online campaigns that goes beyond the current “last ad clicked” standard. For the last decade, virtually all ad campaign reporting methodologies associate sales, leads and Web traffic simply to the last click or ad exposure. Engagement Mapping takes into account for the first time all the various online touchpoints and interactions a consumer experiences before an eventual sale.

No one decision will destroy a life. There is no such thing as choosing the wrong path at a crossroad and that is the end of it. It is no clear case success/ fail rate. Decisions, if they are major enough, like that of a lifetyle will keep coming back at you.

Social Privacy

by karlcow

The problem is really that you can't know, even to a reasonable degree of certainty, that you have made all the right choices, exposed only what you want and nothing else, and that those settings are going to be honored in the way you think they are.

NewsFactor Network | Google's 'My Location' a Threat to Privacy?

by karlcow

Google's new "My Location" feature in Google Maps for phones creates an "unnecessary privacy risk," according to Marc Rotenberg, director of EPIC. In his view, it is safer and more private for consumers to use a standalone GPS device for location information instead of Google Maps. "A typical GPS device leaves the user in control," he said.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Young warned over social websites

by karlcow

Some 71% of 2,000 14 to 21-year-olds said they would not want colleges or employers to do a web search on them before they had removed some material.
