Today, we are pleased to announce Picasa 3.5, a new version of our free photo editing software for Mac or PC. Picasa 3.5 has name tags and uses the same technology that powers name tags on Picasa Web Albums. With name tags, you can organize your photos based on what matters most: the people in them.

Add text or watermarks to your photos
You can easily personalize your photos using the Watermark and Text tools.
Watermarks
Help protect your images by stamping a watermark on all images that you export or upload. The watermark signature will be placed in the lower right-hand corner.
Upload photos with watermarks
Click the Tools menu in Picasa 3, select Options, then click the Web Albums tab. Select the option labeled 'Add a watermark for all uploads.' Type the text for the watermark in the field below the option.
Export photos with watermarks
When you click the Export button in the Photo Tray, you can select the 'Add a watermark' checkbox to include a watermark on your exported images. Type the text for the watermark in the field below the option.

Jusqu'à présent, les albums photos en ligne de Picasa n'avaient que deux modes de partage : soit ils étaient complètement publics, soient ils étaient simplement masqués. Pour partager l'album privé, il suffisait d'envoyer l'URL, dotée d'une clef privée, à la personne de votre choix pour qu'elle y accède directement. Cependant, vous n'aviez aucun contrôle sur le reste, à savoir que cette personne pouvait diffuser l'URL à n'importe qui sans que vous le sachiez. Depuis quelques jours, un troisième mode a été créé.

Google vient en effet d'ajouter à son outil de publication et de retouche de photos , la fonction Explorer (Découverte en français). Celle-ci permet désormais de visualiser de manière beaucoup plus pratique les albums des autres utilisateurs, ce qui, jusqu'à présent, relevait du parcours du combattant. En mettant en place cette fonction, Picasa remédie ainsi à une grosse lacune de ses versions précédentes, qui empêchait encore de nombreux photographes amateurs de changer définitivement de système de publication. Car pour bénéficier du point fort de Picasa, c'est à dire le nombre illimité de photos en ligne (Flickr est limité à 200 clichés à moins qu'on souscrive un abonnement Pro), il fallait accepter un quasi-anonymat dû à la médiocrité des fonctions "réseau social" de l'outil. To hide an MP3 file into a JPEG image, copy the MP3 file and a picture into a folder. Open the command prompt window (Start –> Run –> cmd) and switch to this folder. Now run the following command: copy /b my_picture.jpg + my_song.mp3 my_new_picture.jpg Remember to replace my_picture and my_song with relevant file names. Next, upload the my_new_picture.jpg file to Flickr. The MP3 song picture will look just like any other regular photograph that you share on Flickr

Windows/Linux: Picasa, Google's photo management tool, has quietly announced a new beta that adds basic movie editing, fuller syncing to Web Albums, and many other features and changes. Actually, the biggest change in the new Picasa isn't in the software itself—it's a new "quick view" utility, which replaces the basic double-click viewing tool in Windows with a Picasa-friendly, drop-cloth-style window. Five new collage styles have also been added to the offerings, and Picasa's new "Movie Maker" tool lets you create slideshow-style clips out of stills or trim and paste video clips together. Et c'est aujourd'hui que le miracle tant attendu est arrivé. Sur la page d'accueil de Picasaweb, un bouton "taguer mes photos" est maintenant présent (ou bientôt, cela dépend des comptes visiblement). En cliquant dessus, Google va scanner et analyser toutes les photos de tous vos albums, pour tenter d'y reconnaître et regrouper les visages d'une même personnes. Et le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que ça marche ! Attention, à titre d'indication, scanner 2600 visages prend environ 30 minutes à Picasaweb. Vous pouvez toutefois continuer à surfer pendant que l'analyse progresse.

On ne sait que peu de choses pour le moment mais la reconnaissance faciale ferait son apparition (comme nous vous l'annoncions il y a quelques temps). Il sera alors possible de marquer quelques photos avec les noms de proches et amis, puis Picasa se chargera ensuite de trouver les autres photos avec ces même personnes...

The Picasa2Lightroom Button : Very easy to post process your favorite pictures in Lightroom, while your picture database and basic editing (crop, straighten, red-eye) stays in Picasa.
If you know your way in Lightroom you can also define an export script which exports your post processed images back to the directory that is being indexed by Picasa.
This way, all your images, originals and edited shot are being stored in one and the same place.
