The Science of Bruce Lee’s One-Inch Punch - Popular Mechanics

by sbrothier (via)
Forget all those broken boards and crumbled concrete slabs. No feat of martial arts is more impressive than Bruce Lee’s famous strike, the one-inch punch. From a single inch away, Lee was able to muster an explosive blow that could knock opponents clean off the ground. Lee mastered it, fans worldwide adored it, and Kill Bill "borrowed" it. But if you’re like us, you want to know how it works. While the biomechanics behind the powerful blow certainly aren’t trivial, the punch owes far more to brain structure than to raw strength.

CLANG by Subutai Corporation — Kickstarter

by sbrothier (via)
Hi, Neal Stephenson here. My career as an author of science and historical fiction has turned me into a swordsmanship geek. As such, I'm dissatisfied with how swordfighting is portrayed in existing video games. These could be so much more fun than they are. Time for a revolution.

The Quantum Hackerspace | Making the Wireless Digital Katana – Hardware Development in Australia

My name is Paul Taylor; I am a Systems Engineer living down in Australia. When I’m not riding Kangaroos or swatting flies, I’ve been developing a Wireless Digital Katana. In essence it is a very high-speed, high-accuracy motion sensitive input device. Right now I am running a Kickstarter campaign to fund my project into the real-world, interestingly it began months ago when another person’s Kickstarter failed to deliver.

The Samurai Archives Japanese History Page

by sbrothier (via)
Welcome to the Samurai Archives, an on-going effort to create an extensive database on the Internet for all interested in this fascinating piece of human history. This page deals with the military aspects of Old Japan, and as such devotes considerable space to the warriors themselves, along with descriptions of battles and various other 'militant' topics. Yet, given Japan's dynamic history, we could hardly confine ourselves to such a narrow view without diminishing the depth and sheer pagentry of our subject . The heart of the page will continue to be the warriors, but with every effort being made to round out our picture. We have and will continue to make every effort to make sure that the information we post is accurate - and will not hesitate to change any mistakes that come to our attention. Where possible, Japanese sources are used - and even these we endeavor to double-check. Nonetheless, inevitably mistakes will be made or reprinted - readers are heartily encouraged to let us know! Moreover, we would be delighted to answer any questions or just hear from fellow lovers of Japanese history. We do not view history or learning as something to be jealously guarded but rather as a gift to be shared with all who seek it.

Musashi no Ken [H264] [ARR] torrent - BakaBT

by sbrothier (via)
Musashi no Ken is a great old school classic about a young boy, Musashi, raised from even before birth to become the greatest Kendo champpion in all of Japan. With a martial arts expert for a father and a mother with an enthusiasm streak you’ve rarely seen – their son Musashi is born to be super strong, fast, and trains harder than anyone – so how can he not become a champion? Part of the anime is him as a child, and part is of him as an adult.
