Protester Films Polish Riots Using Drone 2011 - YouTube

by karlcow

Video showing a civilian operated drone chopper filming riots in Warsaw, Poland last Friday is a great example of the democratization of what was until very recently, military-grade tech. This is a straight up ISR drone that's flying high above the streets of a major city taking camera footage that was once the exclusive domain of high-priced news choppers and government helos

Warco | Defiant Development

by gregg
WARCO lets players shoot and record what they see ‘through the lens’ – framing shots, panning and zooming, grabbing powerful images of combatants and civilians caught up in war. They’ve got AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades – you’ve got a flak jacket, a video camera, and a burning desire to get the story. Every game space is embedded with multiple objectives and story leads for journalist Jesse DeMarco to find – a scoop if she’s smart, mortal danger if she drops her guard…

Where Have All the Photojournalists Gone? - Technology - GOOD

by karlcow

"If what makes a photographer better isn't clear, then I don't think photographer jobs should be preserved just because they have up until this point. People thought the profession of photography was threatened when autofocus was introduced, but photographers who lasted proved that knowing the technical elements of a camera was the least important part of their value."

Role in the society and possession, access to a skill not owned by others. The uniqueness of the skills being diluted, the initial value disappear, and then the ecosystem changes.

"Using a phone has brought my attention less to the craft and more to what I am photographing and why. So, the question becomes not where I see the phone taking my work, but where the work will take me."

The Good Enough and the priorities of values.

Journalistes: hackez pour survivre! » OWNI, News, Augmented

by karlcow & 1 other

This is not Chernobyl – Response to Skewed Media Coverage of Fukushima Nuclear Plant Incident -HESO Magazine

by karlcow

I think it’s time I checked in with another update from Tokyo to set the record straight. If you’ve been reading the foreign press about the “toxic cloud” hanging over Tokyo, you should know that I’m fine. Everyone in Tokyo is fine. The mask and the bathtub? I’m not so worried about those any more. The only exposure we’re worried about is exposure to sensationalist bullshit printed in the foreign press that is worrying our families and causing panic.

- ElectronLibre.info

by karlcow

The Report an Error Alliance

by karlcow

Giving site visitors an easy-to-find, easy-to-use “report an error” button is a way of saying to them that you care about accuracy, you want to know when you make errors, and you’re conscientious about fixing them. It’s like putting a “you can trust this” badge on everything you publish.
