PUBLIC MARKS with tag graffiti

"I'm not sure when the mural above first appeared in  Vancouver, British Columbia. But I recently noticed a QR code painted over an offending tag that had been sprayed on the mural. Remarkably, the QR Code takes you to an image of the mural before it was vandalized.

The lakeside backpacker alley has seen better days. Every week, another restaurant, home or guesthouse is demolished. What remains is frustration in the form of graffiti. This alley has not felt creepier and run-down in years. Better look for the next backpacker ghetto (my bet’s around Orussei)

UK based artist HUSH returns to LA with his show Twin opening this weekend at New Image Art. Continuing to explore graffiti, tagging and street art within this latest group HUSH adds an element of duality - examining and playing with the idea of polarity.

In 2008, indie powerhouse Mark Batty Publishers released the excellent Urban Iran — a gripping, visually stunning anthology by photographers Karan Rashid and Sina Araghi exploring the rich spectrum of street art across Iran’s cities and countryside.

Graffiti Analysis is an extensive ongoing study in the motion of graffiti. Custom software designed for graffiti writers creates visualizations of the often unseen gestures involved in the creation of a tag. Motion data is recorded, analyzed and archived as Graffiti Markup Language (.gml) files, a specifically formatted XML file designed to be a common open structure for archiving gestural graffiti motion data.
