App Engine, Facebook Platform, OpenSocial, and the Future of the Web - O'Reilly Radar

Imagine if Google Accounts added support for the (upcoming) OpenSocial REST APIs. All of a sudden, each of these App Engine sites could start injecting activity and querying for activity across each other. Maybe you'll argue that this just means that Google Accounts could become the next big social network, but isn't it a bit different when this functionality is just a part of your hosting infrastructure? What if Google Accounts ignored the notion of friends and instead left that to actual social networks? If done right, this really could be the first shipping glimpse of the distributed social web that there is to come.

Le lancement d'OpenSocial a beaucoup fait parler de lui ces derniers jours. En tant que partenaires de lancement, nous reconnaissons qu'il s'agit là d'une excellente initiative, bien que cela ne réponde pas à la question principale : quid du conteneur d'applications ? Les développeurs devront-il coder plusieurs versions de leur applications en utilisant différents conteneurs en fonction de la plateforme ?
C'est pourquoi nous avons décidé que dès l'instant où la technologie sera mature, toutes les API sociales existantes seront intégrés en tant que plugins à l'UWA, notre Universal Widget API.

OpenSocial provides a common set of APIs for social applications across multiple websites. With standard JavaScript and HTML, developers can create apps that access a social network's friends and update feeds.

Le projet de Google portera le nom de OpenSocial (L’URL ne sera active que Jeudi) et ne sera pas un méta-réseau social comme on aurait pu l’imaginer. Il s’agit en fait d’une séries d’API qui permettent à des développeurs de créer des applications compatibles avec toutes les plateformes sociales qui désirent participer au programme.
