Localize It: PodPonics Grows High-Tech Organic Produce In Shipping Containers | Fast Company

by karlcow

use recycled shipping containers as "grow pods," which are outfitted with organic hydroponic nutrient solutions; computer-controlled environmental systems to regulate temperature, humidity, pH levels, and CO2; and lights that emit specific spectrums at different points in the day. The system provides the exact amount of water, lights, and nutrients that a crop requires--so there is no wasted energy (though the pods are still hooked up to the power grid). In a 320 square foot area, PodPonics can produce an acre's worth of produce. The pods can be stacked on top of each other for more efficient use of space.

We’re all frogs in heating water; the water has been getting hotter gradually as the buffers grow in subsequent generations of hardware, and memory has become cheaper. We’ve been forgetting what the Internet *should* feel like for interactive applications. Us old guy’s memory is fading of how well the Internet worked in the days when links were 64Kb, fractional T1 or T1 speeds.  For interactive applications, it often worked much better than today’s internet.

Summit on the Summit

by gregg
Our challenge was to give HP technology relevance in times when actions speak louder than any media buy. So we built a website that is literally as tall as Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft, or 16,709,709 pixels), where fans could track a group of celebrities and activists climbing the world’s tallest free-standing mountain to raise awareness for the global clean water crisis. The climbers used HP technology to amplify their message to the rest of the world, sharing their photos, clips and tweets on the site in real time. The 16,709,760-pixel Web site allowed fans to climb with the team in real time. You could follow their photos, videos and tweets along the way, as well as track their vitals, their position on the mountain and the current weather conditions. Most important, you could donate water by sponsoring a foot of their climb. Description ici : http://www.myawardshows.com/2010/andys/summit_website/
