JJSA - Journal of Japanese Sword Arts

by Takwann
The Journal of Japanese Sword Arts began life in 1989 as a monthly newsletter. More than 90 issues and almost ten years later it is still being produced. The Journal contains news, reviews, announcements, and in depth articles concerning all aspects of the Japanese sword. The Journal contains all the copy in The Iaido Newsletter, plus much more. Check out the JJSA Awards for sword related websites. The editor, publisher, and chief inking boy is Kim Taylor, a long time student of Japanese sword, and associate editor of the Journal of Asian Martial Arts.

Fukushima: Inside the Exclusion Zone - Alan Taylor - In Focus - The Atlantic

by karlcow

An evacuee relaxes in her makeshift dwelling on the floor of the Big Palette convention center. The crammed emergency quarters lack privacy, and disease can spread rapidly.

Helvetwitter - josef richter

If you like Jon Hicks' Helvetireader and Ad Taylor's Helvetical, this is another attempt to build upon these designs.

I know I am not alone in my love/hate relationship for Google’s apps, the functionality is brilliant but the UI is ugly. Google Calendar is most definitely not the exception to the rule, it hurts my eyes.

Push and Pull: The Importance of Language in Iaido

by Takwann
copyright © 2007 Kim Taylor, all rights reserved Language is important. The words we use in our heads when practicing iaido are important. Instructors and students may not realize just how important they are, but here's a small example of how carefully we should pick our words. Beginners are likely to say that we pull the sword out of the scabbard, and we push it back in.

Iaido from Seiza

by Takwann
copyright © 2010 Kim Taylor, all rights reserved I notice this topic has once again reappeared on a discussion forum. I had my say on this 20 years ago in an article from "The Iaido Newsletter" and I will re-print that here, but I also have a little bit of new data for the consideration of the readers.

Command Line Warriors - Headfirst into the Semantic Web

by karlcow

I would not recommend to start with OWL, but maybe it suits you :) The hardcore way.

There is a good book "Programming the Semantic Web, Build Flexible Applications with Graph Data" By Toby Segaran, Colin Evans, Jamie Taylor with a lot of python code into it.

You can also play with SKOS if you want to deal first with taxonomies http://www.w3.org/TR/2009/NOTE-skos-primer-20090818/ and understands some of the concepts of RDF.

There is the IRC #swig channel (Semantic Web Interest Group) on irc.freenode.net.

The Role of Uchidachi in Kata

by Takwann (via)
copyright © 2007 Steve Quinlan, all rights reserved This short article is in response to the article written by K. Taylor regarding the “Fallacy of Expanding Time in Kata”. The article examines a common trap that I think all martial artists who study Kata are guilty of falling into at some time or another. The issue is falling into a “well what if I did this instead…” line of thinking. The article gives some wonderful insight into why this is so commonly done, and a means of preventing ourselves from succumbing to its call.
