Protester Films Polish Riots Using Drone 2011 - YouTube

by karlcow

Video showing a civilian operated drone chopper filming riots in Warsaw, Poland last Friday is a great example of the democratization of what was until very recently, military-grade tech. This is a straight up ISR drone that's flying high above the streets of a major city taking camera footage that was once the exclusive domain of high-priced news choppers and government helos

Voyeurism and Appropriation in Kohei Yoshiyuki’s ‘The Park’ at Visual Culture Blog: Visual Studies and Visual Communication

by sbrothier
In the early 1970′s, while walking with a friend through a park in Tokyo, photographer Kohei Yoshiyuki noticed that young couples used the park as a space for intimate encounters in the belief that they are protected by the darkness of the night. Equipped with a small camera and Kodak’s infrared flashbulb, Yoshiyuki produced a series of photographs that captures the nightly performance in Tokyo’s parks. In this haunting series of photographs produced between 1971 and 1979 and simply called The Park, the couples, both straight and gay, become the unwitting actors in Yoshiyuki’s play. While The Park has attracted much controversy in 1979 when it was first exhibited and published as a book in Tokyo, it was nearly thirty years later, in 2007, that Yoshiyuki’s project received global acclaim resulting in exhibitions throughout the US and Europe.

ORDER POSTS BY CUSTOM KEY REVISITED By BRANDON | Published: JANUARY 13, 2009 I’ve gotten quite a few questions about how to get this to work on a specific page, or only within a specific category. I actually had the same issue when building the script originally. The trick is that you can’t just use the conditional tags in the functions page. At that point, it’s already too late because the queries have already been run. You have to create a function and then run it as a filter on one of the early WordPress initializing functions. I chose the wp() function. Here is my revised code (nearly straight from the client’s site).

The Battle Japan’s Losing: Population Falls Again - Japan Real Time - WSJ

by karlcow

About 146,200 more people died than were born during the year, another sobering record high, for the fourth straight year. The spread of people is also increasingly becoming concentrated in cities as economically struggling rural towns and villages empty. A little over 90% of citizens reside in cities. Indeed, there are more people who reside in Tokyo’s concrete jungle alone, about 12.66 million people, than all of the small towns across the country combined (11.86 million), according to the ministry numbers.

This is not Chernobyl – Response to Skewed Media Coverage of Fukushima Nuclear Plant Incident -HESO Magazine

I think it’s time I checked in with another update from Tokyo to set the record straight. If you’ve been reading the foreign press about the “toxic cloud” hanging over Tokyo, you should know that I’m fine. Everyone in Tokyo is fine. The mask and the bathtub? I’m not so worried about those any more. The only exposure we’re worried about is exposure to sensationalist bullshit printed in the foreign press that is worrying our families and causing panic.

Staring menacingly at the camera these extraordinary looking creatures look like monsters straight out of a horror film. But, despite appearances, these creatures are actually jumping spiders, which measure a tiny six millimetres. The harmless arachnids, which are capable of jumping up to six times their own height, can be found in grassy meadows and on the walls of houses on sunny days. Photographer Tomas Rak scours British towns and countryside looking for them to capture on film with macro photography.

Sword tip movement - AikiWeb Aikido Forums

by Takwann
I've become obsessed with my sword cuts as of late. One thing has been driving me nuts for well over a year. When I swing my sword, watching my cuts in a mirror, I just can't seem to get the tip of the sword to go straight. It moves, ever so slightly, side to side as it goes down. It's super minor, but I can't stop thinking about it, which is probably making it worse! What I tend to do is stare at my own eyes in the mirror and try and swing the sword to pass between my eyes in the mirror. I think I'd equate it to shooting a rifle or a bow and arrow and having the shakes. Has anyone else experienced this and been able to steady yourself?
