Tattly™ Designy Temporary Tattoos — Welcome

by sbrothier
Tattly started out of my frustration that temporary children tattoos are often hideous looking. Think Clip Art gone Tattoo. I was ready to put designy, cool, typographic tattoos on my daughter’s arm. Tattly was born. When you have such an all-star line up of designers submitting designs, there’s not much that can go wrong. Yay for a fun-loving design community that was in for the ride.

Dolphinforce vs. Black Mesa (c64 Remix by Byte-Blaster)

by sylvainulg
Ok, gordon, your headphones should keep you comfortable. If you would be so good to climb up and start the woofers, we would bring the anti-reverb spectrometer to 80% and hold it until the bass-line arrives

Visual Culture Blog: Visual Studies and Visual Communication

by sbrothier
The Visual Culture Blog is published by the photographer and researcher in visual culture Marco Bohr. As he reached the finishing line of a theory based PhD on Japanese photography of the 1990s, Marco began the Visual Culture Blog in October 2010 to vent some ideas that didn’t fit into the thesis. Born and raised in Germany, studying photography in Canada, living in Japan, and continuing postgraduate studies in the UK, he hopes to bring an international perspective to the study of visual culture(s). Marco recently completed a Visiting Fellowship at the Australian National University and is on his way to become Lecturer in Visual Communication at Loughborough University.

TOSEI-SHA PUBLICATIONS Megumi IWATA "Tatara"

by sbrothier
The snow covered Izumo seen from the window of the air-plane was just so refreshing that I felt myself purified as if landing on to the holy ground. Driving for one hour and half from the air port, I went through a long tunnel jus like the womb of a huge dragon. Having passed quiet country village, I headed forth into a hilly cedar mountain. I couldn't help sensing god's presence there. I pushed my way through the deep snow, there appeared Kanayago-jinja. (the guardian deity of iron). I had to climb the steep approach to the shrine. Snow was swept clean around the shrine and I saw names of worshippers praying for the success of their Kera making were recorded in a note-book. I simply felt a strong impulse to observe how iron be made. Having opened door, there I found Tatara.

Komei Juku - Maui, Hawaii Iaijutsu

by Takwann
The first line of each couplet describes a natural phenomenon and the following line makes the point for the first line’s statement. This poem is not haiku but has a similar structure that sets a scene and follows with an allusion to an iaijutsu waza. The placement of the poem after the listed description of the Chuden wazas in the makimono suggests that it is not intended to be descriptions of or technical advice about the Chuden wazas. Rather the poem’s purpose seems to be to communicate the spirit and attitude that the practice of iaijutsu should develop. Therefore the poem should lead to understanding the spirit of iaijutsu.

Codex » Info

by sbrothier
Codex is a weekly music podcast hosted by Jean Snow, recorded in Tokyo, Japan. A long, long time ago in a country far, far away (that would be Canada) he used to have a college radio show. He had two of them, actually, first when he was truly a university student — believe it or not, it was called The Jean Snow Show — and then 10 years ago when he was back in Canada for a year, he did another show on the same station (CKUM) which he decided to call Codex (for reasons that have long been forgotten). He’s long missed those days of hosting a weekly music show — in a proper studio — and although he can’t replicate that same environment, he’s recently started doing similar but on the net, in podcast form.

Git Undo 999 - How do I undo this operation? - while ("im automaton");

by karlcow

Though Git’s commands are incredibly useful, it’s hard for newcomers to make a good combination of Git’s commands to finish their own tasks, like shell commands. Recent Git’s command-line interface is well polished, but there is no command such as git undo-what-i-did, because things to be undone are varied for each situation. So that we have to execute a bunch of commands to do what we want.

JSON Formatter & Validator

by srcmax
The JSON Formatter was created to help with debugging. As data expressed as JSON is often written without line breaks to save space, it became extremely difficult to actually read and make sense of it. This tool hopes to solve the problem by formatting and validating JSON data so that it is easy to read and debug by human beings.

Daring Fireball Linked List: AppleInsider: 'Apple Reportedly Questioning Future of Mac Pro'

by night.kame

AppleInsider:

Although the Mac maker has reportedly developed a revision to the existing Mac Pro that may or may not see the light of day, people familiar with the matter said management as far back as May of 2011 were in limbo over whether to pour any additional resources into the product line.

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

Forrester to your IT dept: Let them use Macs — Apple News, Tips and Reviews

by night.kame

Snow Leopard clients have tons of issues with SMB shares and we had to dumb down our Windows 2008 R2 security because Mac’s cant connect to it.

We used to be able to get help from Apple, but the department we worked with is gone. Apple does not care about the Enterprise at all.

Daring Fireball Linked List: Character-by-Character Insertion Point Movement in iOS iWork Apps

by night.kame

Update: You can swipe with two fingers to move forward/back a word at a time, and three for the entire line — but I find these gestures hard to use, especially on the iPhone. If they’re not perfectly horizontal they scroll the view.

Nous dit le type qui 5 minutes avant prétendait que quasiment tout était découvrable facilement sous iOS.
