a small space: cabin in a loft
rather than divide up the space in this brooklyn loft with walls, architect terri chiao decided to create
small houses within houses. the cabin in a loft is a two bedroom space in bushwick, brooklyn that
features a small cabin and a treehouse, integrated into the interior. the two enclosed spaces serve as
the loft’s sleeping quarters each with their own semi-private garden space tucked away form the main
living space. the cabin is the master bedroom, located on the same floor as the rest of the loft, while the
treehouse is the second bedroom, elevated off the ground allowing room for a dining room underneath.

Well-formed data » Visualizing survey results
Each circle sector stands for one person’s ratings, and these are ordered by their average rating. For each single rating, I draw a semi-transparent wedge, with distance from center as well as color indicating the rating’s value. Special treatment is provided for the overall event rating (a more opaque, smaller wedge). For visual spice, a black spline connects all the average values of the ratings.

House N / Sou Fujimoto | ArchDaily
The house itself is comprised of three shells of progressive size nested inside one another. The outermost shell covers the entire premises, creating a covered, semi-indoor garden. Second shell encloses a limited space inside the covered outdoor space. Third shell creates a smaller interior space. Residents build their life inside this gradation of domain.

BLDGBLOG: How the Other Half Writes: In Defense of Twitter
Again, I fail to see any clear distinction between someone's boring Twitter feed – considered only semi-literate and very much bad – and someone else's equally boring, paper-based diary – considered both pro-humanist and unquestionably good.
Kafka would have had a Twitter feed! And so would have Hemingway, and so would have Virgil, and so would have Sappho. It's a tool for writing. Heraclitus would have had a f***ing Twitter feed.

et surtoutIf the Guardian's Apocalypse Survival Guide models a return to the land on a dystopian Hobbesian-Hollywood model of selfishness and violence, Hatake No Uta goes completely the other way. Here, survival in the countryside is a matter of semi-religious respect for nature, love of food, poetry, gentleness, wholesomeness, teamwork, beautiful scenery, simple, heart-warming people, something utopian. Now, sure, I wouldn't know country life if it bit me on the nose. But I do recognise cultural difference when I see it.
I welcome there being cultural differences in the ways we respond to the current crisis, because differences mean choices.
