There are some browser and screen reader combinations that treat CSS not only as a presentational thing, but apply meaning according to the used properties. For example some won’t read a list if you use list-style: none; in your CSS. This assumes that the meaning of your HTML is overwritten by the visual style: If it doesn’t look like a dumb bullet list, it must be no list at all. I’m not sure I conclude with that assumption, but that isn’t the main point of the article here.

Social Television is a general term for technology that supports communication and social interaction in either the context of watching television, or related to TV content. It also includes the study of television-related social behavior, devices and networks. Social television systems can for example integrate voice communication, text chat, presence and context awareness, TV recommendations, ratings, or video-conferencing with the TV content either directly on the screen or by using ancillary devices. Social television is very active area of research and development that is also generating new services as TV operators and content producers are looking for new sources of revenue. While a number of existing social television systems are still at a conceptual stage, or exist as lab prototypes, beta or pilot versions are available commercially. White-labeled social TV platforms have also emerged (such as Visiware's PlayAlong, LiveHive Systems and Ex Machina's PlayToTV) which allow TV networks and operators to offer branded social TV applications. On the ratings front, companies such as SocialGuide, Bluefin Labs, Networked Insights and TrendrrTV have emerged to measure the social media activities tied to specific TV telecasts.[1] In essence, these new companies seek to serve as the Nielsen Ratings of the social televisions space.

A new game, Pig Chase, will soon let you have a play date with a pig. Following a European legislation, farmers have to provide pigs with entertainment to prevent them from being bored or violent. A team from the Utrecht School of the Arts and Wageningen University came up with a solution: a tablet game where humans and pigs play together towards the same objective. The human controls a ball of light on his touchscreen. The pig has to do the same thing with his snout on the screen of his pen. If they succeed to bring the ball to the goal an explosion of lights bring joy and happiness to the pigpen. And a great satisfaction for the human: he’s going to eat a peaceful meat.

In February 2011 I got to visit Montana State University as a guest lecturer. I also spent a day doing a screen printing workshop for their graphic design students. The students got to print 4 different 2 color posters. It was a really fun experience.

Applesoft, like Integer BASIC before it, did not come with any built-in commands for dealing with files or disks, other than a feature to save programs to, and load programs from, audiotape. The Apple II disk operating system, known simply as DOS, thus intercepted all input typed at the BASIC command prompt to determine whether it was a DOS command. Similarly, all output was scrutinized for a Control-D character (ASCII 4), which BASIC programs would send before seemingly PRINTing a disk command to get DOS's attention (the disk commands would not really get PRINTed but were intercepted by DOS and prevented from making it to the screen output).[3] ProDOS followed this lead, although the BASIC command interpreter was placed in a separate program called BASIC.SYSTEM and the hook worked in a different manner.[4]

Gestures, to me, are the touchscreen equivalent of keyboard shortcuts: a convenient alternative, but almost never a good choice for the primary interface for a task. So, sure, it’d be nice if you could flick pages to the top of the screen to close them in Mobile Safari, but keep the red close button there too.
The key to iOS’s success is that you can figure almost everything out just by looking at it.
Il vaut mieux être capable de lire ça que d'être aveugle. En tout cas je ne sais pas où il vit, mais il n'a apparemment jamais vu les milliers de personnes essayant débilement tous les gestes possibles parce que justement, ils ne voyaient pas comment faire autrement avec leur périphérique iOS.

Push Pop Press acquired by Facebook
Last year Push Pop Press set off to re-imagine the book. We created a new way of publishing and exploring text, images, audio, video and interactive graphics, then teamed up with Melcher Media and Al Gore to create a new kind of book.
The result is Al Gore's Our Choice, which was released earlier this year. The response has been incredible. Tech columnist David Pogue of The New York Times summed it up by saying:
“this is one of the most elegant, fluid, impressive apps you've ever seen. It's a showpiece for the new world of touch-screen gadgets.”
Now we're taking our publishing technology and everything we've learned and are setting off to help design the world's largest book, Facebook.
Although Facebook isn't planning to start publishing digital books, the ideas and technology behind Push Pop Press will be integrated with Facebook, giving people even richer ways to share their stories. With millions of people publishing to Facebook each day, we think it's going to be a great home for Push Pop Press.
Al Gore's Our Choice will remain available for purchase, and we've decided that our future profits from the book will be donated to The Climate Reality Project. There are no plans to continue publishing new titles or building out our publishing platform that was in private beta. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported and expressed interest in Push Pop Press.
Both Push Pop Press and Facebook share a passion for improving the way we share and explore ideas and we couldn't be more excited about what the future holds.
