Digital Picture Frame Snatches Photos from Public Wi-Fi Networks « How-To News

by night.kame & 1 other, 2 comments (via)

The picture frame is made from an ancient Pentium II laptop, a custom frame built by Artrageous, and some handy duct tape. It runs Debian and the application used to snatch pictures from the Wi-Fi connection is Driftnet, a "program which listens to network traffic and picks out images from TCP streams it observes".

Je me demande si un PIC (à la Arduino) aurait la puissance de faire ça, et de le faire tourner sur une pile de 9V ? Voire de faire ça avec du papier électronique (bien mieux que ces écrans LCD avec leur angle de vision réduit).

arthuredelstein/clooj - GitHub

by jpcaruana
clooj is a small, simple IDE (integrated development environment) for the clojure programming language. clooj is written entirely in clojure and uses a swing-based GUI. It is cross-platform (assuming Java 1.6 has been installed on your operating system), and runs as a standalone application or as a clojure editor embedded in another java or clojure application. The standalone version (containing the clojure core) is a single jar file that can be launched by double-clicking its file icon or by running java -jar clooj-XXX-STANDALONE.jar from the command line. To embed in java, call clooj.core.show().

zeroflux.org

by srcmax & 1 other (via)
knockd is a port-knock server. It listens to all traffic on an ethernet (or PPP) interface, looking for special "knock" sequences of port-hits. A client makes these port-hits by sending a TCP (or UDP) packet to a port on the server. This port need not be open -- since knockd listens at the link-layer level, it sees all traffic even if it's destined for a closed port. When the server detects a specific sequence of port-hits, it runs a command defined in its configuration file. This can be used to open up holes in a firewall for quick access.

Useful Tips & Ideas for Fluid App

The best thing about Fluid in my opinion, is the ability to let you add another app using the Browsa plugin so that both the main web app and the “browsa plugin app” runs side by side.

Yahoo! Smush.it™

by srcmax & 2 others
Smush.it uses optimization techniques specific to image format to remove unnecessary bytes from image files. It is a "lossless" tool, which means it optimizes the images without changing their look or visual quality. After Smush.it runs on a web page it reports how many bytes would be saved by optimizing the page's images and provides a downloadable zip file with the minimized image files.

Mud Run Races, Training and Gear

by personmark
Finding a mud run The best way to find a mud run to compete can be a little bit tricky. Mud runs aren’t as common as 5K’s, which are usually a dime a dozen on any given Saturday, and this is due to staging the muddy course. There is not a comprehensive calendar that exclusively lists mud runs. Some online calendars can classify mud runs as adventure races or even trail runs. The best way to find a mud run in your area would be to do a simple google search. Just type mud run and your local zip code in the search bar, and see what comes up. Also, if your community has a local running club, that would be a good place to inquire. Finally, just drive to a local running store in your area and ask the manager. They are usually more then happy to help, and may even have registration forms on site. With a little time and the proper resources, you will be able to find a mud run close to you and start getting dirty. Happy hunting.

Chris Harrison - Visualizing the Bible

by alphoenix
The bar graph that runs along the bottom represents all of the chapters in the Bible. Books alternate in color between white and light gray. The length of each bar denotes the number of verses in the chapter. Each of the 63,779 cross references found in the Bible is depicted by a single arc - the color corresponds to the distance between the two chapters, creating a rainbow-like effect.

Backdooring a custom DocTestRunner - Python Testing Cookbook

by karlcow

While doctest runs the code examples, it doesn't provide the nice reports some of the other BDD tools have. I dug in to find out how to write my own DocTestRunner that would:

parse the name of the scenario, turning it into a "Given a blah blah blah" statement

look at the line preceding a code example, and if it starts with #when, print that out "when we add a carton of milk..."

look at the line preceding a code example, and if it starts with # (but not #when), print that out followed by the outcome of the test run, "ok" or "FAIL".

Functional Recuperation - mrstsk: For the Paris Nuit Blanche last week...

by karlcow

On Line 14, which runs between the Gare de Lyon and Madeleine, the jingles and public announcements in the trains and stations were replaced by files made by o.lamm and Kumisolo. Their announcements replicated the polite ones heard on Japanese public transport, creating an intriguing sense of cultural schizophonia.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server

by ghis & 5 others (via)
You can use HFS (HTTP File Server) to send and receive files. It's different from classic file sharing because it uses web technology to be more compatible with today's Internet. It also differs from classic web servers because it's very easy to use and runs "right out-of-the box". Access your remote files, over the network. It has been successfully tested with Wine under Linux.
