Ghetto at the Center of the World: Chungking Mansions, Hong Kong, Mathews
There is nowhere else in the world quite like Chungking Mansions, a dilapidated seventeen-story commercial and residential structure in the heart of Hong Kong’s tourist district. A remarkably motley group of people call the building home; Pakistani phone stall operators, Chinese guesthouse workers, Nepalese heroin addicts, Indonesian sex workers, and traders and asylum seekers from all over Asia and Africa live and work there—even backpacking tourists rent rooms. In short, it is possibly the most globalized spot on the planet.

A House to Live With: Paul Rand in Esquire 1953: Slideshow: Slide 6: Observatory: Design Observer
A House to Live With The creative heart of the Rand home is the studio. Lighting fixtures, beam lighting insets in ceiling, plus full window footage and white reflector make it an artist’s delight. The house is square in outline, subdivided into 8 rooms, 3 baths, has virtually no corridors, radiant heating throughout. Photo by Hans Namuth.

362 Longchang Road (near Pingliang Road), Yangpu district, Shanghai, is also called Longchang apartments. This apartment complex is a Roman Coliseum-looking square-shaped compound, 5 story buildings surround a spacious courtyard in the middle which housed over 250 families. Each story of the building has a long public corridor, behind the corridor are various sized dwellings, many residents also built rooms in the hallways.
Tokyo Apartment by Sou Fujimoto - today and tomorrow
The Tokyo Apartment building by Sou Fujimoto consists of five dwelling units. Each one of them has two or three independent rooms in a prototypical “house” shape. I’m not sure that I would like to climb a ladder each time I want to go to the other room. But I would definitely like to visit this building.

knowing that the cinema is empty might attract people who wants to have empty rooms. The business case is possible too.
About being ubiquitous, there are two types of things. Accessible data on things, accessible data on people, I love the first one, I'm very worried about the second one.
I like GPS, because it is a (low quality) broadcast location grid system. It doesn't locate you, you locate yourself on a grid.
On the opposite, cellphone towers location systems are tied to an id (mobile phone contracts), it identifies your location. Very bad.
I wish cellphone towers where only creating a grid of geolocation.
