Your Time Zone or Mine? A Study of Globally Time Zone-Shifted Collaboration - Microsoft Research
We conducted interviews with sixteen members of teams that worked across global time zone differences. Despite time zone differences of about eight hours, collaborators still found time to synchronously meet. The interviews identified the diverse strategies teams used to find time windows to interact, which often included times outside of the normal workday and connecting from home to participate. Recent trends in increased work connectivity from home and blurred boundaries between work and home enabled more scheduling flexibility. While email use was understandably prevalent, there was also general interest in video, although obstacles remain for widespread usage. We propose several design implications for supporting this growing population of workers that need to span global time zone differences.

With P1817, product ownership is perpetual, and the tethers are severed that connect your purchases to their vendors. No one can restrict how you privately use or share them. However, because they are copyrighted, rightsholders retain the legal right to control public dissemination of their works. Just as a printed book can be lost if you share it publicly (i.e., with strangers), you must be careful to share only privately (i.e., with those you trust.) That's because anyone who shares either of your playkeys can take both of them and move them to his own device and his own online playkey bank! The availability and mobility of playkeys lets you electronically share, lend, borrow, give, take, donate, and resell digital property, just as you do with your physical possessions. And since playkeys remain singular, unique, and protected from counterfeiting, copyright holders know that your sharing will remain a private, non-public matter.

XHTML 1.1 was obviously a mistake, as it’s used (as far as I know) nowhere else, and is a dead-end as far as web technologies go. Few automated HTML tools generate it, and the changes from XHTML 1.0 are simply annoying rather than useful.
I’d prefer that ePub support XHTML 1.0, which is simply HTML 4.01 with an XML vocabulary. HTML 4 is the dominant form of HTML on the web (and will remain so for some time) and common automated tools like Tidy can clean up “street” HTML 4 into XHTML 1.0 quite well. Tidy won’t, however, produce XHTML 1.1.
I also don’t want to put an upper bound on the XHTML supported: XHTML 5 should also be okay, and the rules for a reading system which don’t support later tags should be the same “ignore and move on” that has worked well on the web.

The Peter Principle is the principle that "In a Hierarchy Every Employee Tends to Rise to His Level of Incompetence." It was formulated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull in their 1969 book The Peter Principle, a humorous treatise which also introduced the "salutary science of Hierarchiology", "inadvertently founded" by Peter. It holds that in a hierarchy, members are promoted so long as they work competently. Sooner or later they are promoted to a position at which they are no longer competent (their "level of incompetence"), and there they remain, being unable to earn further promotions. This principle can be modeled and has theoretical validity.[1] Peter's Corollary states that "in time, every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out his duties" and adds that "work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence".

NORWEGIAN COLLECTION OF POTENTIAL ARCHITECTURE is an online collection of the half-baked, the promising, the raw and the invisible architecture; Projects that miscarried, went over the top, were turned down by clients or for other reasons never became realised.
The idea is to create a database of this collective knowledge, designed as a user-generated web platform with continuously added projects. A statistical representation and survey of the collection will provide insight into this undisclosed realm. The collection will be a gathering of visions, ideas that will forever remain unrealised, but hopefully not made in vain.
