wtf?major record label EMI (in the process of being acquired by Universal Music to make it the largest record label by far) is suing the Irish government because it feels the Irish government is taking too long to pass a SOPA-like law that would require ISPs to censor the internet and block access to sites it doesn't like.

Of course, where there’s feudalism, there’s droit de seigneur. The price for security will be, probably must be, a loss of privacy, anonymity, and control to Amazon. Right now, Amazon’s terms of service provide some contractual anonymity to users, but as a technical matter Amazon has total visibility into everything that happens on a Fire tablet. That visibility is very likely necessary for security, and it is damn sure valuable for commercial purposes. So it’s hard to imagine that it won’t be used for both purposes.

The spread of people is also increasingly becoming concentrated in cities as economically struggling rural towns and villages empty. A little over 90% of citizens reside in cities. Indeed, there are more people who reside in Tokyo’s concrete jungle alone, about 12.66 million people, than all of the small towns across the country combined (11.86 million), according to the ministry numbers.
