THE THING Quarterly
Instagram and Flickr, the one where I refine my argument « Rev Dan Catt's Blog
Yep, comments seem a bit of an anachronism nowadays. I think I’ll probably turn them off on my blog too, when I get round to deploying the new version I’ve half-finished. I miss the long-form responses though. Tweet responses can be hard to follow with the character limit forcing over-simplicity. That’s one of the nice things about Google+, although it’d be nicer still to make more of a return to personal blogs.

Japan: I am Isolated in My Workplace · Global Voices
“The Internet can be a saving grace if you’re isolated in your school or workplace.” - This was a remark from my recent interview with Izumi Mihashi from Lingua Japanese. I was reminded of it when chancing upon a poignant cry in the form of an anonymous blog entry [ja]. Bullying doesn’t stop at the schoolyard.

More graffiti than guesthouses! « Constructing Cambodia
The lakeside backpacker alley has seen better days. Every week, another restaurant, home or guesthouse is demolished. What remains is frustration in the form of graffiti. This alley has not felt creepier and run-down in years. Better look for the next backpacker ghetto (my bet’s around Orussei)
Developer Tools in Firefox Aurora 10 ✩ Mozilla Hacks – the Web developer blog
Mozilla is building a collection of stable, fast and usable developer tools that ship with the browser. I’d like to introduce a collection of improvements that are scheduled to be released in final form on January 31, 2012.
Maison Bernier-Thibault: Work and Play Extensions | Busyboo Design Blog
Located in Montreal’s Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood, the exterior of this brick house suggests nothing out of the ordinary. Inside, it features an open plan space with a three-story-high stairwell that floods the entire home with sunlight. The new extension consists of a playroom and an office in the form of two boxes of glass and wood, 264 sq. ft. each, one in the garden and one on the roof.

DingoAccess » Measuring accessibility
There has been much discussion, and some arguments, about how to determine the accessibility of websites. Unfortunately, this is often polarised around two simplistic choices: A compliance/conformance based approach that usually involves a checklist of criteria; or, some form of user testing by people who have different disabilities and/or who rely on different assistive technologies. Both approaches have their strength and limitations, and neither can provide a reliable declaration about the accessibility of a site on its own.

Tokyo metabolizing creates vision for Tokyo as new urban form « Tokyo Green Space
In Tokyo the average household is less than 2 people, and these smaller households seek new connections with neighbors, colleagues, and friends. I think the most radical suggestion is that an awareness of other people living around you might be considered a positive feature rather than something to be concealed or suppressed.

Swarmanoid project
design, implementation and control of a novel distributed robotic system. The system will be made up of heterogeneous, dynamically connected, small autonomous robots. Collectively, these robots will form what we call a swarmanoid.
