But I’m also doing this because I’m secretly an idealist (with all the inherent irrationality), and I find the notion of a world in which people pay what they want for art to be attractive.

Create a cool wax seal with an engraved eagle — Tutorials — gimpusers.com

by bebs (via)
You maybe know this: In the very past important letters have been sealed using a so called wax seal. This is a hot wax drop on the opening of the envelope - then a seal ring containing the unique emblem of the empire was pressed on the wax to harden the wax. So the letter was secured from spys from now on - because any opening would have breached the original letter. This tutorial shows how to create such a wax seal in GIMP! Have fun ;)

Introducing: Evernote Peek, The First iPad Smart Cover App « Evernote Blogcast

by sbrothier
Several months ago, Phil and I were sitting in a plane playing around with the just-released iPad 2. Of all its features, the thing that floored us was the ingenious Smart Cover. It didn’t seem like an accessory so much as an extension of the device. As we sat there opening and closing the cover, a question struck us: could we use the cover to control an app that would make Evernote even more useful?

The Unarchiver

by gregg & 11 others
The Unarchiver is a much more capable replacement for "Archive Utility.app", the built-in archive unpacker program on Mac OS X. The Unarchiver is designed to handle many more formats than Archive Utility, and to better fit in with the design of the Finder. It can also handle filenames in foreign character sets, created with non-English versions of other operating systems. I personally find it useful for opening Japanese archives, but it should handle many other languages just as well.

Here’s a common scenario: Someone asks if you have a friend’s contact info.  Emailing or texting takes too long, and retyping it on their phone is error-prone.  Send it via QR code instead!

Begin by finding and opening the contact you want to share. Open the menu and choose “Share.” Choose “Barcode Scanner” and you’ll be presented with the QR code for the contact. Allow the other phone user to scan this code, and the contact is copied to their phone!

Video Data Bank: A Bit of Matter and a Little Bit More

by karlcow

The male/female, subject/object investigation in A Bit of Matter and a Little Bit More has no titillating introduction; the appetite is not whetted beforehand. Hardcore, the opening shot, shows the crotch areas of a male and female body engaged in coitus. At the end of the tape a male voice says, "Some questions and five answers relative to moved pictures, five questions and some answers relative to moved pictures—" a reference to the artists' book, 100 Rocks on a Wall. .
