Serendipitor

by karlcow

Serendipitor is an alternative navigation app for the iPhone that helps you find something by looking for something else. The app combines directions generated by a routing service (in this case, the Google Maps API) with instructions for action and movement inspired by Fluxus, Vito Acconci, and Yoko Ono, among others. Enter an origin and a destination, and the app maps a route between the two. You can increase or decrease the complexity of this route, depending how much time you have to play with. As you navigate your route, suggestions for possible actions to take at a given location appear within step-by-step directions designed to introduce small slippages and minor displacements within an otherwise optimized and efficient route. You can take photos along the way and, upon reaching your destination, send an email sharing with friends your route and the steps you took.

Sword tip movement - AikiWeb Aikido Forums

by Takwann
I've become obsessed with my sword cuts as of late. One thing has been driving me nuts for well over a year. When I swing my sword, watching my cuts in a mirror, I just can't seem to get the tip of the sword to go straight. It moves, ever so slightly, side to side as it goes down. It's super minor, but I can't stop thinking about it, which is probably making it worse! What I tend to do is stare at my own eyes in the mirror and try and swing the sword to pass between my eyes in the mirror. I think I'd equate it to shooting a rifle or a bow and arrow and having the shakes. Has anyone else experienced this and been able to steady yourself?

by sbrothier
As late as 1955, Vogue covers vacillated between serif and sans serif typefaces, as well as script faces and illustrative, photographic letters. It was after 1955 that the magazine appears to have legislated a consistent use of the all-capitals banner headline set in Didone lettering. Apart from minor details, it has remained absolutely fixed since then, the trade-dress of a powerful international franchise.

KubuntuKarmicNetbook - Ubuntu Wiki

by tadeufilippini (via)
* KubuntuKarmicNetbook You are here: Kubuntu Wiki » KubuntuKarmicNetbook * Launchpad Entry: kubuntu-karmic-netbook-edition * Created: June 1, 2009 * Contributors: ScottK, Tonio, other Kubuntu devs * Packages affected: kubuntu-default-settings, possibly a new plasma-netbook-shell package Summary Provide, as a technology preview for Karmic, a new minor *buntu flavor, Kubuntu Netbook Edition. KDE4 is designed from the ground up to be scalable to many form factors. Many Kubuntu users are already using it in netbook computers. The intent is to make it easy for Kubuntu to just work. Release Note This release includes a new member of the Ubuntu family, Kubuntu Netbook Edition. This variant of Kubuntu is aimed at netbooks and other small form factor devices. Rationale Netbooks appear to be growing in popularity. An install image optimized for this form factor would be great for users and may have some commercial potential. KDE 4 is designed to be scalable and is easily adjusted to new form factors. It may be particularly useful to have in the *buntu stable in cases where a quick turn around for a particular device type is needed. User stories Jane has used Kubuntu for years and wants it on her new netbook. She is pleased to find Kubuntu Netbook Edition gives her a familiar environment scaled to her new device. Klaus has a new netbook device coming to market with an exciting new form factor. He needs an OS for it, but needs it soon. With a little help, he's able to ship on time and on budget with Kubuntu Netbook Edition. Assumptions None. The settings changes have been prototyped and the plasma-netbook shell will only be included if it is mature. Design Test various settings such and font and panel sizes in the netbook form factor to determine good settings for smaller systems. Test and integrate plasma-netbook shell if ready. Implementation Implementation will have three major parts Settings Changes A new Kubuntu default settings netbook package will be needed along with a netbook metapackage for this edition (in Universe for Karmic) New Flavour Setup A kubuntu netbook seed will need to be created. Image builds for i386 will be needed. Plasma Netbook Shell If it is ready, the plasma Netbook shell will be packaged and used as the default front end for Kubuntu Netbook Edition. It is currenlty in heavy development and likely to be ready for Karmic. * http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Plasma/Plasma-Netbook * http://www.notmart.org/index.php/BlaBla/put_a_net_in_your_book * http://www.notmart.org/index.php/Software/Plasmanetbook_breaths Some patching of kdelibs/base/plasma-addons is needed (and doable before feature freeze) to support Plamsa Netbook in KDE 4.3. Test/Demo Plan Images will need to be thoughly tested before release. We will encourage people to test these on netbook and full form hardware. Unresolved issues Inclusion of Plasma Netbook shell TBD pending testing. How to Create a Theme Development Environment for a Live WordPress Site – Inspect Element - Web Design & Development Blog

by simon_bricolo
Any good website owner knows that they need to be constantly looking at ways to improve their site even through small little tweaks. If you're using Wordpress you'll notice that it isn't easy to create a development version without creating a separate installation. Of course, you can make changes directly on a live WordPress site but that isn't recommended for anything other than minor tweaks.

Ubuntu Linux Software Download

by tadeufilippini (via)
Ubuntu is a free computer operating system based on Debian GNU/Linux. Its name comes from the Zulu word "ubuntu", loosely translated as "humanity", describing the ubuntu philosophy: "I am who I am because of those around me," a positive aspect of community. Ubuntu's goals include providing an up-to-date, stable operating system for the average user, with a strong focus on usability and ease of installation. Ubuntu has been rated as the most popular Linux distribution for the desktop, claiming approximately 30% of desktop Linux installations in a survey by desktoplinux.com. Ubuntu is free and open source software, meaning it is free to download and use without monetary charge and is free to be modified and improved upon. Ubuntu is sponsored by the UK-based company Canonical Ltd, owned by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth. Instead of selling Ubuntu for profit, Canonical creates revenue by selling technical support. By keeping Ubuntu free and open source, Canonical is able to obtain and leverage the talents of outside developers in projects such as Linux, Debian, GNU, X.org, etc., without developing the entire operating system themselves. Canonical endorses and provides support for four Ubuntu-based distributions: Kubuntu and Xubuntu, which use KDE and Xfce, respectively, as a desktop environment, replacing the default GNOME system used by Ubuntu; Edubuntu, a subproject and add-on for Ubuntu, designed for school environments and home use; and Ubuntu JeOS (pronounced "Juice"), a stripped-down version of Ubuntu, optimized for virtual appliances. Canonical releases new versions of Ubuntu every six months and supports Ubuntu for eighteen months by submitting security fixes, patches to critical bugs and including minor updates to programs. LTS (Long Term Support) releases, which occur every two years,[6] are supported for three years on the desktop and five years for servers. The current version of Ubuntu, Intrepid Ibex, was released on October 30, 2008. [1]

GUUUI - Visio - the interaction designer's nail gun (3rd edition)

by holyver
This is a third edition of my article on using Visio for rapid prototyping for the web. The new edition includes a minor update of the GUUUI Web Prototyping Tool that eliminates a major shortcoming: the inability to create scrolling pages. The update also includes brand new sketchy interface widgets.

moominstuff: Polaroid 110A covertomation. Convertomizing. Okay, just conversion.

by karlcow

I chose to use a 110A because I got a good deal on eBay. 110Bs are the most popular just because they have a couple minor improvements over the 110A. Some people convert the 'lesser' models as well. Here is my 150 next to my 110A. See the obvious difference in the lens quality.

Acemone GNOME-Look.org

by tadeufilippini
Description: Wow, it is my first GDM theme. GDM is the major Linux login manager, flexible and customizable. This theme is named Acemone: altough it is an easrly version, is usable and effective. I wanted to thank the friend Eduardo Mejia who let me use his amazing ‘Amanecer’ wallpaper for this theme. You really should visit his wonderful deviantArt page at http://eamejia.deviantart.com/, you will certainly love his artworks! Thanks also to Danilo ‘TheMirror’ Romelli for translating the GDM tags documentation! The first version of Acemone with userlist is out! Changelog: 0.55: Acemone have reached 500 downloads! It's also time to release the 0.55 version! Changelog: new button set, more detailed and artistic with a different position. Also code is slightly different to fit different screen resolutions: if you experience some trouble this this theme, please, report the bug ;) Comments, ratings, fans are welcome (a motivated worker is a better worker :) )! 0.60: Some minor changes for this new version: different color for username/password label to improve readability, fully commented xml to make editing easier, edited copyright infos in the greeter file. Compatibility up to 1680x1050 resolution is tested and Acemone works without problems. A new version of 0.60 is out from 04/09 to fix some comment tags. 0.69 - with UserList: After days of coding and many tests, the first Acemone with Userlist alpha is out. Works perfectly on 1280x800, tests with higher and lower resolutions will be done soon. The disposition of items in the theme is very different from standard Acemone, prettier as much as I can do. Advices in this sense are more than welcome, please report bug and problems and I will fix them as soon as possible. 05/06/2009: This is not an update but a communication. Acemone with userlist is now tested and certified for working at all standard resolutions. Thanks to all for over 10,000 downloads! Starting a new iconset for the theme ;) License: GPL (Acemone 0.50) (Acemone 0.55) (Acemone 0.60) (Acemone 0.69 with UserList)

Shiki is designed to be fast and stable. There is a Clearlooks version for out-of-the-box compatibility with most distros and a Murrine version for eyecandy and speed. There are five color variations (Orange, Blue, Green, Purple, Red). A matching set of Icons, Wallpapers and GDM themes can also be downloaded separately from gnome-look or at the gnome-colors project page. You can edit the theme's source (the gtkrc files) for further customization, which is all too easy due to the included instructions. Must read or clowns will eat you: -The Murrine version will only work with Murrine 0.90.3 or newer. Yes, you will need to upgrade unless you're using Ubuntu Jaunty. -The borders are very thin, and titlebars/menubars are unified because of "LOL, ELEGANCE". If you have any difficulty resizing windows, try the included alternate metacity with thicker borders. -The following tweaks are recommended when using the included Metacities (press ALT F2 and then input each command): gconftool-2 --type float --set /apps/gwd/metacity_theme_opacity 1 gconftool-2 --type float --set /apps/compiz/plugins/decoration/allscreens/options/shadow_opacity 0.85 gconftool-2 --type float --set /apps/compiz/plugins/decoration/allscreens/options/shadow_radius 12 -In Ubuntu, for themes (installed through appearance preferences) to be able to theme applications in admin mode, you must type in a terminal: sudo ln -s ~/.themes /root && sudo ln -s ~/.icons /root -In Ubuntu, you can use the official PPA repository for easy installation. -To fix minor Firefox 3 bugs in Shiki-Colors, install the Stylish add-on and go here (or install the included userChrome.css file following the instructions in README): http://userstyles.org/styles/10822 -You can also get the Shiki-Colors userstyle for google reader if you go here: http://userstyles.org/styles/17341 -Visit the GNOME-Colors project page for bug reports, feature requests and more downloads: http://code.google.com/p/gnome-colors/ -Consider donating a small amount to the GNOME-Colors project if you wish to support it, or to show your appreciation. Changelog: 3.8 -Very minor fixes. -Added userChrome.css (with instructions in README), for people who want to apply the Firefox 3 fixes without the stylish add-on. 3.9.1 -Updated userChrome.css file to newest version. -Minor change to default metacity and xfwm. -Fixed a tooltip text issue with brasero and beagle. -Added theming to ComputerTemp applet. 04/26/09: -Google Reader theme has been added.
