HTML 4.01 in Netscape and Explorer: Tables | WebReference

by karlcow

Before we go on to talk about the various features of the HTML 4.0 Table model, it would be useful to note that Netscape supports almost none of it. Netscape only supports the HTML 3.2 Table model in its entirety, so you can read up on that if you want to design for Netscape. The rest of this section applies to Explorer only.

OverviewBanners2 (Field)

by Emaux & 1 other
Field is a development environment for experimental code and digital art in the broadest of possible senses. While there are a great many development environments and digital art tools out there today, this one has been constructed with two key principles in mind: Embrace and extend — rather than make a personal, private and pristine code utopia, Field tries to bridge to as many libraries, programming languages, and ways of doing things as possible. The world doesn't necessarily need another programming language or serial port library, nor do we have to pick and choose between data-flow systems, graphical user interfaces or purely textual programming — we can have it all in the right environment and we can both leverage the work of others and take control of our own tools and methods. Live code makes anything possible — Field tries to replace as many "features" with editable code as it can. Its programming language of choice is Python — a world class, highly respected and incredibly flexible language. As such, Field is intensely customizable, with the glue between interface objects and data modifiable inside Field itself. Field takes seriously the idea that its user — you — are a programmer / artist doing serious work and that you should be able to reconfigure your tools to suit your domain and style as closely as possible.

iPhone 4S is worth buying to look fashionable but not for Siri feature -- Shanghai Daily | 上海日报 -- English Window to China New

by night.kame

One of the most touted features of the iPhone 4S is the web-based voice recognition assistant Siri. It's interesting and sometimes powerful, but not always in China. First, it doesn't support Mandarin and China-based map and location services, which makes it somewhat less appealing than Apple's US-based advertising would have you believe. The good news is that Apple has said it will launch a Chinese-language version of Siri this year. Second, it can't always recognize words spoken in English. I tried it 10 times, and it recognized my words only 5 times. A Canadian native speaker who also tried found it worked seven out of 10 times. Still, it will give you results sometimes if it manages to catch only keywords.

Siri, c'est la personne qui vous répondra toujours au téléphone.

Vendor Prefixes Are Hurting the Web

by Monique & 1 other

I think vendor prefixes are hurting the Web. They are hurting Web authors. They are hurting users of browsers. They are hurting competition in the Web browser space. I think we (people developing browsers and Web standards) should stop hurting the Web. It would also make sense for browsers to implement other browsers’ prefixed features to the extent existing content uses prefixed features.
