"This poster is a father and son collaboration. All elements are hand drawn by Koen (age 6) with a Sharpie marker at the dining room table, then arranged digitally in our studio. The type is the “Golden Rule” as penned in the honest hand of a child. Maybe what we learned in kindergarten is most important after all…"

The philosophical underpinnings of David Foster Wallace's fiction. - By James Ryerson - Slate Magazine

by jeanruaud
When the future novelist David Foster Wallace was about 14 years old, he asked his father, the University of Illinois philosophy professor James D. Wallace, to explain to him what philosophy is, so that when people would ask him exactly what it was that his father did, he could give them an answer. James had the two of them read Plato's Phaedo dialogue together, an experience that turned out to be pivotal in his understanding of his son. "I had never had an undergraduate student who caught on so quickly or who responded with such maturity and sophistication," James recalls. "This was this first time I realized what a phenomenal mind David had."

To the extent that it could be the piece of online puzzle without which no start-up could live long.

Days With My Father: $19.95 : Chronicle Books

by sbrothier
Days With My Father -- Days With My Father is a son's photo journal of his aging father's last years. Following the death of his mother, photographer Phillip Toledano was shocked to learn of the extent of his father's severe memory loss. He started a blog on which he posted photographs and accompanying reflections on his father's changing state. Through sometimes sad, often funny, and always loving observations, we follow Toledano as he learns to reconcile the elderly man living in a twilight of half memories with the ambitious and handsome young man he occasionally still glimpses. Days With My Father is an honest and moving reflection about coming to terms with an aging parent.

Megalopolis Shanghai by Horst and Daniel Zielske | Daily Icon

by karlcow

In this series of pictures, the two photographers - father and son - present Shanghai between fiction and reality as the ‘city of tomorrow’. The focal point of their photographic work is the architecture of the city’s streets, a critical investigation and analysis encompassing the subject of urban landscape. In a long-term project begun in November 2002, they have been documenting the metropolis Shanghai as an urban composition, a man-made architectural living space and enviroment of unprecedented and unimaginably gigantic dimensions. The resulting images are of immense visual beauty.

The AI Report - Forbes.com

by parmentierf
Can machines think? In 1950, Alan Turing, considered by some to be the father of modern computing, published a paper in which he proposed that, "If, during text-based conversation, a machine is indistinguishable from a human, then it could be said to be 'thinking' and, therefore, could be attributed with intelligence." He predicted that a computer would pass this "Turing Test" by the end of the century. That hasn't happened--yet. But the question continues to provoke and inspire. AI might be just around the corner, or it might be centuries away.

Father of the Bride Speeches and Toasts

Father of the Bride Speeches are often, quite understandably, sentimental. A Father of the Bride hardly finds any time to prepare for his speech, and might just need some professional help for his toasts.
