THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES

by sbrothier
The Avant/Garde Diaries is a digital portrait magazine that documents personal views on the avant-garde. Rather than labeling people avant-garde, we try to see through the eyes of people, who we admire for what they do. For each article we ask contributors from the creative field to introduce someone or something they consider to be ahead of time and explain why. The result will be a compendium of various, very personal perspectives that disclose new ways of thinking and spread inspiration. Corresponding to this digital platform, three-day festivals will be hosted in metropolises around the world. Each event will be curated by an expert from the creative industry, showcasing his or her personal view on avant-garde. For information on upcoming and past events please check the Event category on this site. The Avant/Garde Diaries is a project initiated by German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. All content remains editorially independent.

Earlier this month at LeWeb, I ran into entrepreneur, professor and startup mentor John Lewis. Having been funded at least 6 times by my count, John Lewis has been living in Paris for quite some time, helping startups at LeCamping, mentoring at StartupWeekend events, and as a professor of finance at both HEC and IAE Gustave Eiffel. Using his experience launching and running software startups, John Lewis has announced the launch of DojoBoost, a new startup accelerator which may receive its first class of startups as early as March 2012.

How To Use WordPress Custom Post Type Query to Sort by Date | DesignHammer Website Design and Development in North Carolina

by mozkart (via)
One thing we were trying to achieve was an Events listing solution that was fundamentally simple. Date, times, location and a description. Many of the events plugins out there seem to store their data in a database table specifically created for the plugin, something that won't play nice with MultiSite. The ideal solution would be a list of events that stores its data in each network site's unique database table structure. Therefore, we chose to set this up as a custom post type with a date picker attached to a custom meta box. We would store the date in a custom field. Simple enough. One thing that had us racking our brains for a while was how to sort the dates in a useful way.

Wordpress: Sort Order by Custom Field for specific Category - PHP - Snipplr Social Snippet Repository

by mozkart (via)
Put this before the loop in archive.php to have posts in the archive for category '26' sorted by custom field 'date'. Assign sortable values like '090501' or '2009-05-01' to those fields when editing posts and your Upcoming Events will be sorted by the future date at which they will take place.

Chris Heathcote: anti-mega: griotism

by karlcow

A few months ago last.fm started looking for a data griot – in their words, a griot “must … have the ability to extemporize on current events, chance incidents and the passing scene. His wit can be devastating and his understanding of history formidable.”

Volatile and Decentralized: Measuring the mobile web is hard

by karlcow

The W3C Resource Timing API provides an expanded set of events for capturing individual resource timings on a page, which is essential for deep analysis. However, this API is still in the early design stages and there seems to be a lot of ongoing debate about how much information can and should be exposed through JavaScript, e.g., for privacy reasons.
