The Living Brick: Big in Japan!

by sbrothier
My own contribution to this theme is already underway, and will be called Miyazakitopia. This is a diorama paying tribute to master animator Hayao Miyazaki. The first phase, "Totoro and friends" is already complete, and was unveiled this evening to coincide with the announcement...

Test Pilot: Tab Open/Close Study: Results

by ycc2106
How much time do you spend on the Web through your browser every day? More time than you spend in your car? How do you use your browser in the morning, the afternoon, the evening, the weekend? Do you use it the same way now as you used it a year ago? Is your browser robust enough to work for you smoothly all the time?

Seaweed glows intensely green in evening's golden light on the western shore of the Barra in the Outer Hebrides with Beinn Tangabhal in the distance. There's a very special quality to the evening light in the Hebridean summertime and is one of my main reasons for being here. Something about its golden, pinkish glow and the luminosity it imparts to colours on the shore. Like here, the intensely glowing greens of the seaweed leaping out in the last touches of sunlight, the wisp of pinks in the expanse of sky above...

Les américains surfent (plus) la nuit

by thomas.deyries
* We all share the same morning and evening Internet addiction: On average, European traffic starts picking up around 5am GMT / 7 am CEST and similarly US traffic takes off around the same time at 7am EDT. Internet traffic also reaches its peaks in the early evening (7pm GMT / 9pm CEST in Europe and 10pm EDT / 7 pm PDT in the US). * North American’s don’t surf over dinner: Unlike European traffic, US daily Internet percentages take a small dip in the early evening between 6pm and 10pm EDT. In contrast, Europe traffic keeps climbing through the evening until a marked 9pm GMT / 11pm CEST drop off. Of course, Europeans tend towards later (and longer) dinner hours than their North American counterparts. * What Europeans do at night: Actually, this bullet point should be what Europeans don’t do at night — spend a lot of time on the Internet. In contrast to North America, European traffic plummets much more steeply and reaches a lower daily minimum than US traffic (US traffic never drops below 50% whereas Europe declines more more than 60% from its peak). Apparently, North American Internet users stay up later and use the Internet longer (next blog post we’ll explore what they’re doing on the Internet late at night).

The Mobile City » Blog Archive » Locative media and the situationists

by karlcow

What struck me was that locative media practitioners often refer back to the situationists as some kind of ancestors, as if they’re working in the same vein. …

But that, to me, seems to be where the similarities end. As alive-and-kicking situationist muse Jacqueline de Jong pointed out during the evening, the situationists wanted one thing above all else: to destroy and disrupt our cushy society. They were sick of it, vowing never to work a day in their lives. They probably would have laughed if they had seen that their ideas had been cherry-picked for ripe concepts. The derive, the detournement. All simple concepts that they purposefully packaged in complex and artistc jargon. And we fell for it.

Abandon Ship! The City Is Sinking!

by macbros
Holy shit we’re getting a lot of rain here in Fredericton NB, Canada! So much that the police are closing down roads here in the city because of flooding. When I was at work today, I was actually surprised at how high the river was, and that was earlier in the afternoon. It’s still pissing like crazy out there right now and it’s later in the evening. I can expect that a lot of low lying areas will get some pretty bad flooding if this afternoons river height was any indication.

BRING ON THE NIGHT (TRADUÇÃO) de The Police no VAGALUME (Letra e Vídeo)

by tadeufilippini (via)
he afternoon has gently passed me by A tarde passou por mim suavemente The evening spreads its sail against the sky A noite esparrama sua vela contra o céu Waiting for tomorrow Esperando por amanhã Just another day Há pouco outro dia God bid yesterday goodbye Deus licitou ontem adeus Bring on the night Traga a noite I couldn't spend another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia Bring on the night I couldn't stand another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia The future is but a question mark O futuro é mas um ponto de interrogação Hangs above my head there in the dark Declives sobre minha cabeça lá na escuridão Can't see for the brightness Não pode ver para o brilho Is staring me blind Está fitando eu a cortina God bid yesterday goodbye Deus licitou ontem adeus Bring on the night Traga a noite I couldn't spend another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia Bring on the night Traga noite I couldn't stand another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia Bring on the night Traga noite I couldn't spend another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia Bring on the night Traga anoite I couldn't stand another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia I couldn't stand another hour of daylight Eu não pude gastar outra hora de luz do dia (repeat and fade) Enviado por Prillinha The Shinoda

by tadeufilippini (via)
The afternoon has gently passed me by The evening spreads its sail against the sky Waiting for tomorrow, just another day God bid yesterday good-bye Bring on the night I couldnt spend another hour of daylight Bring on the night I couldnt stand another hour of daylight The future is but a question mark Hangs above my head, there in the dark Cant see for the brightness is staring me blind God bid yesterday good-bye Bring on the night I couldnt spend another hour of daylight Bring on the night I couldnt stand another hour of daylight I couldnt spend another hour of daylight I couldnt stand another hour of daylight

Guardian Unlimited: Arts blog - books: Opening a dream bookshop

by karlcow

The Big Green Bookshop now has its own blog where you can follow its progress. And, OK, maybe I can be a tad impatient when it comes to some bookshops, but I wish Simon Key and Tim West all the luck I can muster. As Simon says himself: "We want to give the residents of Wood Green a shop that they're proud of, a place where there's always something happening, be it an author event, a reading group, a coffee morning, an evening of music or poetry, or just a place where they can be inspired by something they find on the shelves.
