Kaiping Tower Houses (“Dialou”) » Tenuous Resilience

by karlcow

These houses, thus, had to serve dual roles: to project an image of luxury, with newfound wealth and culture represented by ostentatious ornament with a distinct western influence, and to protect that wealth from marauding bandits (apparently a big problem at the time).

Double Boot Mac OS X et Ubuntu 10.04 avec rEFit et Bootcamp | GeckoGeek

by oseres (via)

What Is Boot 2 Gecko? A Look At Mozilla's Chrome-esque Cloud OS | thechromesource - Google Chrome and Chrome OS News and Forum

by oseres (via)
devices tend to be harder to get good open drivers for without pulling in things like X, which we don’t want to do.”  It sounds as though Mozilla believes that developing Boot 2 Gecko for the PC could end up conflicting with their goal to make the system completely open-source. That’s a secondary concern, though- their primary focus is definitely on the booming mobile market. And honestly, can you really blame them? A Rival For Android?

SARDU - Multi Boot USB pendrive and CD or DVD Builder

by cascamorto (via)
SARDU is a free* software that can build one multiboot support CD, DVD or a USB device (USB stick/pendrive and all removable are supported). The name is the short of Shardana Antivirus Rescue Disk Utility The disk or USB device may include comprehensive collections of "antivirus rescue cd", collections of utilities, popular distributions of Linux Live, the best known Windows PE , recovery disks and Install of Windows XP , Windows Vista and Windows Seven . All do you need for troubleshooting. SARDU does include a few utilities, but is primarily a tool for managing the software (ISO image files) that you download from other companies and developers. SARDU has multilanguage support. At startup it checks to see if a system language exists, then sets the software language accordingly. If a system language does not exist, the language is set to English. (The author is willing to add all possible translations).

Nabaztag recieves code on its every boot. We call it the byte code and it is used to operate all internal actions what Nabaztag does. At the time of writing there is no tools released to modify these operations. We are explaining in detail how byte code operates inside Nabaztag. DistroWatch.com: Puppy Linux

by tadeufilippini
Puppy Linux Última Atualização: Wednesday 6 April 2011 03:08 GMT Based on: Independent Origem: Australia Architecture: i386 Desktop: JWM Category: Desktop, Old Computers, Live Medium, Netbooks Status: Active Puppy Linux is yet another Linux distribution. What's different here is that Puppy is extraordinarily small, yet quite full-featured. Puppy boots into a ramdisk and, unlike live CD distributions that have to keep pulling stuff off the CD, it loads into RAM. This means that all applications start in the blink of an eye and respond to user input instantly. Puppy Linux has the ability to boot off a flash card or any USB memory device, CDROM, Zip disk or LS/120/240 Superdisk, floppy disks, internal hard drive. It can even use a multisession formatted CD-RW/DVD-RW to save everything back to the CD/DVD with no hard drive required at all

SARDU - How to Combine Rescue Disks to Create the Ultimate Windows Repair Disk - How-To Geek

by decembre
Why limit yourself to just one? Here’s how to combine your favorite repair disks together to create the ultimate repair toolkit for broken Windows systems—all on a single flash drive. If you need to clean up an infected system, we’d absolutely recommend the BitDefender CD, since it’s auto-updating. Best bet? Create your ultimate boot disk with as many of the different utilities as your flash drive can hold. To create the rescue disk, a USB flash drive with a decent amount of space—for our purposes, 2 GB is the minimum size, but you’d be better off with something a little bigger if you want to put a lot of repair disks on it, especially the larger ones. To create the custom drive, we’ll use a small piece of software called SARDU, which combines a bunch of functionality into a single package—you can use it to download the ISO images, write everything to the USB drive, or create an ISO image that you could burn to an optical disc—though obviously you’re space-limited in that case.

Boot Multiple ISO from USB (MultiBoot USB) | USB Pen Drive Linux

How to create a Multiboot USB Flash Drive that you can use to Boot Multiple ISO Files from USB. Please note that you might need a 8GB-16GB or larger USB flash device to be able to support every bootable ISO entry. I will update and add more Bootable ISO files to the list as I find the time to test them. You can also contact me to submit working Bootable Linux ISO menu.lst entries for inclusion.

MultiSystem - How To Boot 10 Different Live CDs From 1 USB Flash Drive - How-To Geek

by decembre
Ever get the urge to try out a bunch of Linux distros at once? Maybe you’re hosting a Linux installation party. Here’s an easy way to get a bunch of Live CDs working from a single thumb drive. 10 Distributions, You Say? MultiSystem is a really easy tool made to run on Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros that you can use to play with various LiveCDs at once, or to create the ultimate recovery device. If you don’t use Ubuntu, you can use an Ubuntu Live CD to install MultiSystem so that you can create your super live USB drive without having to run Linux as your main OS. It’s best to download your ISOs ahead of time, and select a USB drive large enough to house them all. I actually went with an 8 GB SD card (used via a USB adapter). Here are some of the popular and interesting distros I used.

by eledo34 (via)

OpenSolaris 2009.06 won't run on v3.2.x? (View topic) • virtualbox.org

by night.kame

Note that such a panic happens in case you move an opensolaris installed /bootable hdd from one computer to another computer with different physicalhardware / device paths; opensolaris won't boot on the new machine; to fix ityou have to boot the new computer from the OpenSolaris LiveCD, and run"zpool import -f rpool". After that the hdd should become bootable in thenew computer.
