WordPress › Post Thumbnail Editor « WordPress Plugins

by mozkart (via)
Fed up with the lack of automated tools to properly crop and scale post thumbnails? Maybe this plugin can help. To meet the needs of themes where the post-thumbnails have random and capricious sizes (which causes wordpress to crop images simply from the middle (either chopping off the top and bottom or chopping off the sides), this plugin attempts to give the users an interface to manually fix those thumbnail and random images.

Welcome to Imagine’s documentation! — Imagine, image manipulations reloaded

by eledo34 (via)

Raphaël is a small JavaScript library that should simplify your work with vector graphics on the web

by emmanuelc & 11 others
Raphaël is a small JavaScript library that should simplify your work with vector graphics on the web. If you want to create your own specific chart or image crop and rotate widget, for example, you can achieve it simply and easily with this library. Raphaël ['ræfeɪəl] uses the SVG W3C Recommendation and VML as a base for creating graphics. This means every graphical object you create is also a DOM object, so you can attach JavaScript event handlers or modify them later. Raphaël’s goal is to provide an adapter that will make drawing vector art compatible cross-browser and easy. Raphaël currently supports Firefox 3.0+, Safari 3.0+, Chrome 5.0+, Opera 9.5+ and Internet Explorer 6.0+.

Localize It: PodPonics Grows High-Tech Organic Produce In Shipping Containers | Fast Company

by karlcow

use recycled shipping containers as "grow pods," which are outfitted with organic hydroponic nutrient solutions; computer-controlled environmental systems to regulate temperature, humidity, pH levels, and CO2; and lights that emit specific spectrums at different points in the day. The system provides the exact amount of water, lights, and nutrients that a crop requires--so there is no wasted energy (though the pods are still hooked up to the power grid). In a 320 square foot area, PodPonics can produce an acre's worth of produce. The pods can be stacked on top of each other for more efficient use of space.

The Best DIY Beauty Dish | ishootshows.com

by sbrothier & 2 others
For anyone doing portrait work, the term “beauty dish” is bound to crop up sometime or another, whether it’s reading Strobist, looking at the technical notes from shoots, or simply surfing for more gear you don’t need. Over the last year, there’s been a lot of interest in DIY (do it yourself) beauty dishes, made of everything from plastic salad bowls to aluminum turkey roasting pans. With the annual slowdown of concert season this winter, I decided to undertake my own DIY project and set out to see what this beauty dish business was all about.

Using a custom domain name | Tumblr

by sbrothier
Custom domains let you host your tumblelog with a URL like "www.mywebsite.com". This can be tricky to set up, and is only recommended for advanced users. Really — our staff isn't able to support many of the issues that may crop up when setting up a domain name. So please ask a friend who's done this before if you're uncomfortable with any of the instructions.

Droste Effect Tutorial : un album sur Flickr

by fotopol (via)
This is an advanced tutorial. You need to be very comfortable with Photoshop and/or GIMP to be able to follow this tutorial. If you don't already know how to create layer masks or crop an image, learn how to do those things first before you try to follow this tutorial because this tutorial does not teach you how to do those things, but requires that you be able to do them.

swissmiss | WhatTheFont for the iPhone! YAY!!

by sbrothier
I have big news! What heFont, the ingenious font recognition app that I use on a regular basis is now available for the iPhone. With the iPhone version of WhatTheFont you can use the phone’s built-in camera to photograph the text in question (or choose an existing image from your photo albums). The app allows you to crop the image, focusing on only the important parts before uploading. After confirming which characters are used in the image, the app provides a list of possible matching fonts. You can then either e-mail a link to a MyFonts page with more info on that font, or open it up in the iPhone’s built-in Safari web browser.

Finch Formats Web Sites for Really Slow Connections

by decembre
The universal, high-speed-everywhere web isn't quite a reality yet, as anyone who's used a relative's dial-up or a seriously weak airport connection can testify to. Web page re-formatting tool Finch gives you just the text, ma'am, from any site you plug into its address box, stripping Flash, JavaScript, stylesheets, and even images from the layout. Tools like this often crop up for mobile phones, such as Google's Mobilizer, but Finch is made for the desktop browser. Some sites will work better with their graphical navigators removed than others, of course, but for anyone stuck with a fist-poundingly slow connection, or paying for every megabyte, Finch is a great bookmarket to keep handy.
