PUBLIC MARKS with search color

A script for grabbing the dominant color or color palette from an image. Uses Javascript and the canvas tag to make it happen.

In February 2011 I got to visit Montana State University as a guest lecturer. I also spent a day doing a screen printing workshop for their graphic design students. The students got to print 4 different 2 color posters. It was a really fun experience.

Colors have a huge effect on readability. This is why you need to choose them wisely so that they not only create esthetically pleasing combinations but also make it easier for users to read the text. Text is an integral part of any site and we shouldn’t punish visitors for coming to our site by using hard to read color combinations.

colour summarizer will produce descriptive colour statistics for an image. Reported will be the average, median or mode, minimum and maximum of each RGB and HSV triplet element.

Here’s what we did: grabbed some 50,000 geotagged photos from Flickr, analyzed the pixel colors of each photo, then mapped a grid of the most frequent color hues.
