In other words, I bought a coffee with a picture. The ramifications of this sorta blew my mind. I mean, I had just paid for physical goods with a digital photo.

The cost is not in the technical infrastructure but in the social infrastructure management

While We Sleep — Night Shift Workers

by gregg
The jobs of some take care of us in ways we don't often stop to think about. Life doesn't pause when we turn out our lights and go to sleep. There are about 3 percent of Americans who work night-shift jobs between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m., according to a 2007 report by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. Graveyard-shift employees drive police cars, stock grocery shelves, care for the sick and injured, repair roads, brew coffee - they labor at night so the rest of us can make it through our days.

Carrie Fisher Used Cocaine on 'Empire Strikes Back' Set - The Moviefone Blog

by bouilloire
"What she didn't mention was whether anyone else on that 'Empire Strikes Back' set was rolling around in the white stuff too. Not that it matters now, but a behind-the-scenes shot of Luke, Leia and Han Solo decked out in their snow suits snorting coke next to a sliced-open Tauntaun would've not only made for a great coffee table book, but it would've also given George Lucas a heart attack." summer goals

by blackgoldfish
here are some of my summer goals: 1. bake two loaves of whole grain banana bread: one to give away and one for me. 2. plan our wedding ceremony. 3. send snail mail. 4. clean out my closet. 5. practice yoga daily. 6. learn yoga anatomy and finish this book. 7. read my borrowed book about new zealand wines. 8. make a breakfast smoothie every day. 9. explore new parts of boston and take pictures. 10. watch this movie. 11. blog from simon's coffee shop (yes, there is a cafe called that!) 12. make mixed cd's for our long drives around new zealand. now tell me, what are your summer goals? are you working on any craft projects or do you have new recipes you want to try? :)

Gizzi's Coffee - Greenwich Village - New York, NY

by democrattotheend
For just over $7, you get two absolutely enormous wedges of chicken salad, a hefty dose of dried sprinkled basil, and fresh slices of tomato, all on huge slices of crusty focaccia. I was full after my first sandwich half. And I'll admit it, I was kind of uncomfortably stuffed after the second. I'm surprised I managed to score one of them, but the two cushy seats way in the back by the TV grant ready access to power outlets, and it's just plain fun to sink into their squishy embrace. If you don't mind getting a little messy while you eat, and you aren't an ergonomic posture Nazi, they're arguably the best seats in the house.

Gizzi's Coffee - Greenwich Village - New York, NY

by democrattotheend
I am endlessly on a quest to find a coffee shop that isn't packed with people I know/hate/more specifically avoid/make fun of and I found Gizzi's!! WHOOOO SOOOOOOOO it was super quaint and quiet, and it was really warm and a terrific place to study. There is a cool variety of people, so don't feel as if you don't fit in if you're not cool and hip like me (yeah ok).
