TOSEI-SHA PUBLICATIONS Megumi IWATA "Tatara"

by sbrothier
The snow covered Izumo seen from the window of the air-plane was just so refreshing that I felt myself purified as if landing on to the holy ground. Driving for one hour and half from the air port, I went through a long tunnel jus like the womb of a huge dragon. Having passed quiet country village, I headed forth into a hilly cedar mountain. I couldn't help sensing god's presence there. I pushed my way through the deep snow, there appeared Kanayago-jinja. (the guardian deity of iron). I had to climb the steep approach to the shrine. Snow was swept clean around the shrine and I saw names of worshippers praying for the success of their Kera making were recorded in a note-book. I simply felt a strong impulse to observe how iron be made. Having opened door, there I found Tatara.

HTML Formatting for Custom Menus | Digging into WordPress

by mozkart
For some projects, it’s nice to output clean, well-formatted markup. Using theme template files enables great control over most of your (X)HTML formatting, but not so much for automated functionality involving stuff like widgets and custom menus. One of my current projects requires clean, semantic HTML markup for all web pages, but also takes advantage of WordPress’ custom-menu functionality to make things easy. In this DiW article, we’ll see how to enjoy both: WordPress custom menus and clean, well-formatted HTML markup.

NodeTree 0.2 : Python Package Index

by karlcow

With NodeTree we seek a hybrid of these two techniques. Callbacks can be set for virtually every stage of processing, but what is returned is the (possibly incomplete) object being processed. Nodes which have been fully processed can be removed from the tree in processing to save memory and the user can even specify an alternative class to create child nodes of an element. The goal is a clean, Pythonic API usable for the most basic to the most advanced XML processing.

Mark Shuttleworth » Blog Archive » Innovation and OpenStack: Lessons from HTTP

by karlcow

It’s true that those API’s would better be defined in a clean, independent forum analogous to the W3C than inside the boiler-room of development at any single cloud provider, but that’s a secondary issue.

Your Code is My Hell | Virtuous Code

by night.kame

But here’s the dirty little secret of Rails development: the messiest, nastiest big-ball-of-mud code I have seen in my entire career has been in Ruby on Rails projects. I’ve seen Rails projects that accumulated enough technical debt and waste in two years to make 10 year-old C/C++ programs look clean and elegant by comparison. And it wasn’t just one project. I’ve seen it over and over.

C'est le pouvoir de la magie : plus le code est mystique, moins il est touchable.

The Decline of the Online Message Board - NYTimes.com

by karlcow

By contrast, the Web 2.0 juggernauts like Facebook and YouTube are driven by metrics and supported by ads and data mining. They’re networks, and super-fast — but not communities, which are inefficient, emotive and comfortable. Facebook — with its clean lines and social expressways — is Robert Moses par excellence.

Slideshows for your iPad « Flickr Blog

by sbrothier
We’re happy to announce some big improvements to the photo light box for iPad users! The light box is a handy, full browser photo viewer available from any photo page. From a photo page on Flickr, simply tap on a photo to view it larger (if available) and on a clean, dark background. Now you’ll be able to quickly swipe between photos, add to your favorites, and share with friends and family gathered around you. So grab your iPad and try looking at your favorite photos, your photostream, or the latest updates from your contacts in the new light box. Enjoy!

SARDU - How to Combine Rescue Disks to Create the Ultimate Windows Repair Disk - How-To Geek

by decembre
Why limit yourself to just one? Here’s how to combine your favorite repair disks together to create the ultimate repair toolkit for broken Windows systems—all on a single flash drive. If you need to clean up an infected system, we’d absolutely recommend the BitDefender CD, since it’s auto-updating. Best bet? Create your ultimate boot disk with as many of the different utilities as your flash drive can hold. To create the rescue disk, a USB flash drive with a decent amount of space—for our purposes, 2 GB is the minimum size, but you’d be better off with something a little bigger if you want to put a lot of repair disks on it, especially the larger ones. To create the custom drive, we’ll use a small piece of software called SARDU, which combines a bunch of functionality into a single package—you can use it to download the ISO images, write everything to the USB drive, or create an ISO image that you could burn to an optical disc—though obviously you’re space-limited in that case.

Summit on the Summit

by gregg
Our challenge was to give HP technology relevance in times when actions speak louder than any media buy. So we built a website that is literally as tall as Mt. Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft, or 16,709,709 pixels), where fans could track a group of celebrities and activists climbing the world’s tallest free-standing mountain to raise awareness for the global clean water crisis. The climbers used HP technology to amplify their message to the rest of the world, sharing their photos, clips and tweets on the site in real time. The 16,709,760-pixel Web site allowed fans to climb with the team in real time. You could follow their photos, videos and tweets along the way, as well as track their vitals, their position on the mountain and the current weather conditions. Most important, you could donate water by sponsoring a foot of their climb. Description ici : http://www.myawardshows.com/2010/andys/summit_website/
