Tattly™ Designy Temporary Tattoos — Welcome

by sbrothier
Tattly started out of my frustration that temporary children tattoos are often hideous looking. Think Clip Art gone Tattoo. I was ready to put designy, cool, typographic tattoos on my daughter’s arm. Tattly was born. When you have such an all-star line up of designers submitting designs, there’s not much that can go wrong. Yay for a fun-loving design community that was in for the ride.

At 83, Sendak is still enraged by almost everything that crosses his landscape. In the first 10 minutes of our meeting, he gets through:Ebooks: "I hate them. It's like making believe there's another kind of sex. There isn't another kind of sex. There isn't another kind of book! A book is a book is a book."

An Ex-Pixar Designer Creates Astounding Kids' Book On iPad | Co.Design

by gregg & 3 others
E-books are already a fraught subject for many readers, writers, publishers and designers, but children's e-books are even more so. Is it rotting their minds? Is it as good as good ol' paper? Is it too interactive for their own good? Obviously there are no practical answers to such questions, but at least one children's e-book/app/thingie (what do we call these things, again?) is doing it very, very right. It's called "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore," and it's like a well-written bedtime story and an immersive animated movie at once -- without being "too much" of either.

Judge Lifts Some Limits on Tobacco Ads and Labels - NYTimes.com

by mozkart (via)
As written, the law would limit advertising to black text with no graphics except in magazines with few young readers or in retail establishments open only to adults. Arguing in favor of that restriction, the government had asserted that companies were using light colors and appealing imagery as substitutes for their misleading use of the terms “light” and “low tar,” which will be banned in June. The judge ruled that companies could use imagery and colors appropriately to communicate “what the product is and who makes it.” He dismissed government objections that such marketing tailored to adults would unduly influence children. If that part of the ruling is upheld, Reynolds could continue using a colored drawing of a camel to promote Camel cigarettes, and Lorillard could continue promoting the aqua color associated with Newport, the leading menthol brand, company spokesmen said. “We are gratified that the court upheld our free speech rights to use color and graphics in our advertising to communicate with our adult consumers,” said Michael W. Robinson, a Lorillard spokesman.

Kroo Bay by Anna Kari & Guilhem Alandry

by HK & 1 other (via)

Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s man behind Mario : The New Yorker

by jeanruaud
In his games, Miyamoto has always tried to re-create his childhood wonderment, if not always the actual experiences that gave rise to it, since the experiences themselves may be harder to come by in a paved and partitioned world. “I can still recall the kind of sensation I had when I was in a small river, and I was searching with my hands beneath a rock, and something hit my finger, and I noticed it was a fish,” he told me one day. “That’s something that I just can’t express in words. It’s such an unusual situation. I wish that children nowadays could have similar experiences, but it’s not very easy.”

We Will Remember Them - Doc Zone | CBC TV

by gregg
As of today, 152 Canadian soldiers have died since Canada entered the war in Afghanistan in 2002. With this project, we go beyond the static photographs and news headlines and get to know the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice. In the film, we introduce a new generation of Canadian heroes. We meet their spouses, siblings, children, and parents. We reminisce with old friends at home and re-live life in Afghanistan with comrades in arms. We bear witness and explore the true human cost of war.
