Media Types in RESTful HTTP - Stefan Tilkov's Random Stuff

by karlcow

One final approach that I find very interesting was mentioned by Jan Algermissen a while ago: If your format is based on an existing one, e.g. HTML or XML, your server can actually send the same content with different MIME types, depending on the client’s capabilities. A client that only included application/json in its Accept header would then get the content labeled application/json, while one that includes the specific MIME type application/vnd.whatever would get the same content with this label applied.

Monitoring Israeli Colonization Activities

by sbrothier
Monitoring Israeli Colonizing activities in the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza is a joint project between the Applied Research Institute in Jerusalem (ARIJ) and the Land Research Center (LRC). The project, funded by the European Union, aims at inspecting and scrutinizing Israeli colonizing activities in their different forms in the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza, and to disseminate the related information to policy makers in the European countries and to the general public. Specifically, the project will be providing accurate updates on the expansion of existing Israeli colonies, associated by-pass roads and land confiscation. It will also provide detailed baseline data related to specific sites where new Israeli colonizing activities are planned or initiated. Methods used to collect data and monitor the colonizing activities will include remote sensing satellite images, field work, aerial photographs, colonies' masterplans, and topographic maps.

text-overflow - MDN Docs

by srcmax (via)
The text-overflow CSS property determines whether an ellipsis ("…") displays when text content has overflowed its given layout area. To force overflow to occur and ellipses to be applied, the author must apply some additional properties on the element. See example below.

Kendo seme, the imminent attack

by Takwann
by David Aguero The dictionary defines seme as “attack.” There are two types of seme the visible and the invisible. The visible seme where one pressures an opponent with a sword movement or a body move. The invisible seme is a pressure applied to an opponent to strike with or without the sword pointing at the opponent. In application seme or ‘attack’ can be thought of as applying an ‘imminent attack pressure.’

Benlog » Facebook, the Control Revolution, and the Failure of Applied Modern Cryptography

by karlcow

No centralization of data in one big database, no trusted dealer/counter/connector, just individuals exchanging coded messages in a particular order and obtaining a trustworthy result. Cryptographers call this secure multi-party computation.

Angular Attack Theory: An Aikido Perspective

by Takwann
This treatise provides a glimpse into our approach to its study but is by no means a comprehensive treatment of the topic. Angular attack theory serves as a bridge to understanding and communicating strategic and tactical concepts in various martial traditions. An understanding of angular attack theory will help to ensure that applied aikido techniques possess martial integrity and are truly effective.

jtauber's Rev at master - GitHub

by karlcow

It's not intended to be a port of Git to Python. It's more designed as an

exploration of how Git works and how the concepts might be applied to other

tasks. In particular, I'm interested in exploring its use for versioning

in-memory data structures rather than blobs on disk.

Dirkon - The Paper Camera [pinhole.cz]

by sbrothier & 6 others
DIRKON – THE PAPER CAMERA During the 1970s, magazines published in Communist Czechoslovakia were controlled by the state, like the majority of other enterprises. Very few good magazines were available and were difficult to get hold of, so people would borrow and exchange them when given the opportunity. This also applied to magazines aimed at young people, which was probably one of the reasons why almost everyone from my generation, when we get on to the subject of pinhole cameras, has fond memories of the cut-out paper camera known as Dirkon*, published in 1979 in the magazine ABC mladých techniků a přírodovědců [An ABC of Young Technicians and Natural Scientists].

RemoveWAT would be the most popular and easiest to use Windows 7 crack out their, the hack once applied allows pirates to enjoy Microsoft's newest operating-system while retaining genuine status and receiving all updates on an illegal copy of the software. RemoveWAT allows illegal activation of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 by completely removing Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) from the computer, the scoop is that the utility has now been updated to v 2.2.5 allowing bypassing of Microsoft's recent anti-piracy WAT update KB971033.According to the latest changelog the utility now features disabling shutdowns on 90 day trial builds, disables the trial time-bomb in evaluation versions and takes care of KB971033 update even it it's already installed.

Usability Expert Reviews: Beyond Heuristic Evaluation

by simon_bricolo
Most people that carry out usability expert reviews use Jakob Nielsen's ten usability 'heuristics'. Many of these guidelines are common sense but they are not based on substantive research. The International usability standard, BS EN-ISO 9241-110 proposes an alternative set of seven guidelines. These guidelines have the benefit of international consensus and they can be applied to any interactive system.

CSS Drop Shadow Tests :: By Phil Baines ::

by delavigne & 1 other (via)
This set of tests are based on an article found on A List Apart. This version uses the same technique, but less CSS coding. This article will make more sense if you read that one first! I hope. Drop shadow on an image The first one here is not a test at all, but a picture of my little brother with a drop shadow applied. This is using the technique put forward in the above article. And as you see, it works a charm.

Evan Williams | evhead: Ten Rules for Web Startups

by karlcow & 19 others, 2 comments

Pyra was started to build a project-management app, not Blogger. Flickr's company was building a game. Ebay was going to sell auction software. Initial assumptions are almost always wrong. That's why the waterfall approach to building software is obsolete in favor agile techniques. The same philosophy should be applied to building a company.

Les idées, inspirations initiales peuvent être fausses. (cependant l'article ne dit pas combien ont réussi avec leurs idées initiales ;) )
