《华盛顿邮报》报道， Jimmy Wales，在线百科全书维基百科的创始人，宣布将在2008年1月7日，发布一开源搜索引擎，Wikia Search。该项目允许社区制定搜索结果排名，其模式接近于维基百科。但他的公司是盈利性质的，因此Wikia搜索引擎也被认为是要挑战Google和Yahoo。
